TomV
I got given a hip flask with sloe gin inside for christmas. It is the best I've tasted, better than mine! It was made with sloes, blackberries and other berries. I want to try and re-create the drink. What other berries could I put in?

Dunkield
Since the Damson Vodka has matured and been put into flasks, it so good I don't think I will be making sloe gin again.

(dont ask) still dont think you can beat 1.5 lb of sloes lb of normal sugar to a 70 cl bottle of gin ! 3 months of brewing ! shaken every day get a nice thick drink (drools)
PhilR
We got into making Sloe gin a couple of years ago and then looked around for other fruit to use. My wife found some mixed berries in a supermarket freezer, I think the bag included blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. We used whiskey for a change and that went down well on the beater's wagon. There's 2 litres of Sloe gin on the go at the moment (well there was before my little tasting sessions to see how it's progressing) and the recipe we used was 2 litres of Gordons Gin, 1100gm of Sloes and 300gm of sugar. The amount of sugar used has been reduced on each batch made as we don't like it too sweet. We also made some Sl' Eau de Vie (excuse pun) as an experiment! Some French friends gave us bottles of their homemade Eau de Vie from plums, one is very sweet and the other is pure rocket fuel. To make it more palatable we combined both bottles into a demijohn and just added 750gm of Sloes and left it for 6 months. I reckon it tastes better now, its certainly gone quicker than the original bottles would have done. Phil
