steve0146
just building a new kennel and wondered what age should the new pup be put into it. I am keen to keep her in the house with the other dogs so we bond and then put her out but what age?
Lloyd90
Whats the weather like by you ? How old is the pup ? You want to get the pup used to the kennel ASAP! Get it in there in the day time. If its not too cold then over night aswell. The breeder I had my lab off said if your going to kennel them then do it right away. Although I got mine at the start of the summer
gwb
This is a concern for me also. My pup is 5 months old at the end of Jan. We have a kennel and no other dogs. He has not stayed in there for any length due to the weather and apparently we have another cold spell coming. When we intoduce him to the kennel he doesnt much care for it. When should we let him stay in it over night? Any advice much appreciated
codling99
all i can say is ,the longer you leave it the harder it gets, one of my russels was born in kennel, and dont know different, the other was put into a boarding kennel during a house fire so basically built a kennel for her to go into when i had her back thinking she s used to being outside now,and she was.their obviously not going to like it at first and will bark and whine a bit,but if you want them out there,i wouldnt worry to much about cold ,just do your best to insulate the kennel from all wind and rain and they be fine. lister1
i put mine out in the run for a couple of hours within the first couple of days. i started by just leaving her in the other room on her own for a few hours so she got used to isolation. i the had the week off work and introduced her to the kennel and run bit by bit. the first day she was out for an hour the a couple of hours. then a couplr of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon. then eventually the day. she cried like a banshee for the first week. in the second week she cried whenever she see someone but after that she was fine. what we also did was to feed her in the run when she went out and now first thing in the morning after we've been for a walk i fill her bowl up and she goes mad till she goes in her run. Beechessam
Start as you mean to go on. Better to get them in the kennel now, than settle them in the house and then try to move them once they feel at home there.
