Someone was recently asking on the forums here about the questions an FEO asks you on the interview. I recall he received some excellent advice.

My FEO (it turns out) phoned the clay shoot I said I shot at, and asked them about me. The shoot takes in the score cards at the end, and registers names, so they had no difficulty confirming my story. He also rang my 'responsible person' and had a good chat with them.

I am glad he did it, because it means he is doing his job properly. My point however is this, don't B.S. the FEO by making stuff up about where or with whom you shoot. If your reasons for wanting to own a shotgun are genuine then I advise 100% honesty.

Ouch. It sounds to me like you really can end up with a very thorough FEO. Mine just asked who my referees are (FAC) and said, "ooo, he's a bit of a dodgey character...!" and during my interview when he asked where I shoot, I told him the farm I used to work on and he stepped back and said, "you worked and shot with that nutter?!"

So basically my FEO is sound as a pound :)

There's nowt wrong with honesty, or him being thorough, that said you don't have to prove good reason for a Section 2 shotgun, as long as you haven't been a naughty boy and are of sound mind it's your right to own one for sporting use, they have to prove good reason for you NOT to be granted a certificate, if you want to leave it in your cabinet for the next 5 Years gathering dust there's nothing they can do about it, if your going for Section 1 shotguns and ammo..it's a different ball game :)

My shotgun interview lasted about all of 5 seconds. just added some bird shooting to the clay shooting i do.

My firearms interview for FAC Air, 22lr and 17hmr consisted of 1 question about the HMR with the answer "rabbits" that was all.

Went through ammo quantities about purchase and hold.

spent most the time about the few blemishes i had on my record lol.

i had land cleared for deer rifles so it was easy to get the rimmys.

to be honest it was easier than i had prepared myself for.

i think partly due to how busy they currently are gives them less time to go fishing.

I was asking on here about what questions the FEO would ask and received some really good advice, and the best advice was to be 100% honest, my FEO was brilliant and the interview was nowhere near as deep as I was expecting, however if it had been, then everything put on my form and any answers given to questions would have been the truth.

Can't see the point in making things up as you never know what they will check, if they find out you've lied you've no chance of getting your cert... don't take the risk in my opinion.

Cheers

Gix.
