kyska
Hi All, What are the issues with keeping guns in cars? I ask as I was out shooting last weekend with a couple of friends, they were using airguns, I had my .22lr. After finishing we decided to go for a drink at the pub, I have always taken my guns home and then travelled back to the pub. I know its most likely not advised, but what is the law about keeping guns in cars?
pandamonia
As far as i know its just over night that you have to keep them under lock and key. they advise that they are covered up so you cant see them. i have a aluminium case with number locks on and this going in my car and its impossible to remove without opening the boot which is impossible without steeling the keys or the car. wrightchopper
My FEO said to me that if i leave my gun in the car the responsibility for its safety is up to me, if it gets nicked its my fault, i dont think the law states you have to have it locked away in the car, although that would be the sensible option, he said best take it home, then go to the pub. I normally take the forestock off my shotgun thus leaving the gun inoperative, plus i cover it over, but nothing is 100% safe these days ! Dekers
Hi All, What are the issues with keeping guns in cars? I know its most likely not advised, but what is the law about keeping guns in cars? There are no issues as such about this other than the obvious advice! Guns/ammo/anything to suggest guns are in the car, should be concealed as best as possible. Ammo/bolts, should not be stored with the gun. Car locked and alarmed if possible. You must take all reasonable care! That's the bit, if your house was only 50 yards away, then reasonable care could mean taking them home and locking them up, if home is some distance away it could be a different story! The general advice is that guns should only be in the car on the way to or from shoots etc, not just carried around all the time! Guns and booze are not normally seen as good bedfellows, but no issues as long as everything is done in moderation. It is common that many have a drink on the way home!
