clutey
Have any of you guys from the UK or N Ireland recently applied for a FAC for the republic of Ireland. Was wondering how long it takes to come through and are there anything/pitfalls to be wary of when applying. I might be looking to shoot some competitions there in the near future. Cheers Clutey..... dazza
Is it not just a form you need signed by the Garda if your going to the ROI?
Ozzy Fudd
i just got an eu gun licence, it was free, just had to send off a form to the psni along with a photo and it came back about a week later (unlike my main fac). i know a few guys who used to get roi gun licences as well as uk ones, as they were down south all the time, but most of us just keep the eu ones now - plus its easy enough to sprint for the border if theres a problem :hmm: Edited January 20, 2010 by babbyc1000
dazza
I have the EU pass as well but do you still not need to send a form to the local Garda of the County and get it signed before you travel. Didn't Donal McCloy get done not so long ago for taking guns to a gamefair over the border?
Ozzy Fudd
hmm dont know. a guy i shoot with the odd time used to get an roi licence, when it was due for renewal he called into a garda station somewhere and asked for the forms, after messing about for half an hour and making half a dozen phonecalls they told him an eu licence was ok ive never really had to use it, was given permission on a farm that straddles the border (thats why i got the licence) but ive yet to go up to it (long story )
dazza
I've heard that firearms licensing has become very strict down there. That's why Frank that used to be on here gave up his rifle and took up lurchers. To much hassle to get a renewal.
dazza
From the Countryside Alliance Ireland website. We would like to inform our members that in order to bring your firearms into the Republic you need to obtain a visitors pass from An Garda. The following is a list of documentation you will need. You will normally then submit your form to the Superintendent in whose area you are going to visit. 1. Your Original European Firearms pass. A copy will not suffice. (If you do not have one you can visit the PSNI website and download and European Firearms Pass application form and apply for it. There is no charge from the PSNI for this). 2. If you are joining a club or syndicate enclose a copy of your membership card or a letter of confirmation from your gun club or syndicate secretary. 3. If you are Deer Hunting you will also require a Deer Hunting Licence from Duchas, National Parks and Wildlife, Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, 7 Ely Place, Dublin 2. or it can downloaded by Clicking Here Please note if you are deer hunting Duchas will require you to have insurance cover. So if you do not have it you can contact Countryside Alliance Ireland and become a member. 4. There is different cost for the Non Residents Firearms Certificate depending on the type of firearm you wish to have on your certificate
Ozzy Fudd
i heard it was getting strict but didnt know it was that tough, and i thought we had it bad up here going by all this then i think the best option would be to give the guards a call and see what they say, but be prepared to be passed round several stations til you find someone that knows - it could even be better if you called into a station (bit far for most of you lads though) but everyone here seems to have heard something different edit - just saw dazza's 2nd post, they must have got alot stricter, there you go clutey Edited January 20, 2010 by babbyc1000
clutey
I'm led to believe the EU pass from the PSNI will just assist you to get a ROI fac and the EU pass or whatever it's called on it's own is not sufficient. Apparently it is possible to get a temporary cert or pass from the Gardi but for the same hassle it is just as best to get a fac.
dazza
Would you not need to be a resident of the ROI to get a full FAC?
clutey
No apparently not Dazza
clutey
Or is it we would just apply for a visitors FAC?? don't know.
sandy22
http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=4144 & go to the last Form in the list on the right hand side.
mayfly36
you can get a ROI permit even if your not a resident. But the cost per gun has gone through the roof, and if a second gun is involved you will be charged for that firearm as well. NOT CHEAP.
