TILLER1
I would say no, the pigeons wont be interested especially if its something there not feeding on. they just want to get to the woods to sleep, just get near some furs if you can. good luck
danddo
Placing decoys on nearby fields would not be advised although if you want to try "suck it and see" I have used lofting poles within the woods to great effect.
ollie
I wouldn't use decoys. Go into the woods during the day for a bit of a reccy; you will notice where the pigeons are roosting by the droppings and feathers, so find yourself a clearing on the downwind side of the trees and you should intercept them on route to their favourite roost spot. I love roost shooting on really windy nights as it is very challenging.
MerseaDavid
Many people have put decoys out along the edges of woods with great success and I have even done it. I have put decoys on winter barley that surrounds one of my woods and it helps draw the birds to where I was shooting. Lofted decoys are the best way to draw the birds in It is normally best not to bother with decoys though because quite often you need to move around to keep under the birds
doodie doo
when roost shooting i always travel light, just tuck yourself in at the edge of the trees at the lee side where it is more sheltered no decoys needed
