Yorkshire Pudding
How many of you self load? Is the saveing you make worth the effort??I.E what numbers of cart. do you have to shoot to be quids in ? all the best
everygoodnamewastaken
My dad and i homeloaded last year. My dad had all the stuff from before i was born because he stoped shooting, I dont think it's economical it doesnt talk to long to load what you need The price of shot i terible because of the price to post it and the power is about £18 and the primers £2.50 i think for 250. I like using homeloads you get satisfaction from bringing a bird down with your own cartrige. The winchester AAA and GB are good cartriges to load. Could get a cheap loader out of ebay. saw a lee load all for £10 there
neil
I've never done it but i've seen the bits in my local gunshop for sale and as egnwt said it didnt seem like a huge saving to me + quite time consuming i would think.I suppose if you shoot big loads ie geese alot it might be different,i wonder how much bismuth or the other non-toxic shot costs?I know people who reload there own rifle ammunition but then thats expensive stuff and they can tailor make it to suit there own setup, they do say its quite satisfing. everygoodnamewastaken
It doestn actually take all that long once you learn what to do. And i have nothing better to do anyway's :(
neil
I suppose once you get into a rythem you can work quite quickly, how long would it take to do say 250 and how many times can you reload the same case?
NGhost
To home load it cost around 100/1000. I started loading my own to get subsonic game loads for my Hushpower. However when i got trhe machine it came with powder for about 4000 rounds, primers for 400, shot for 500. and wads the same. The cases last for between 2 and 6 reloads, gamebore blue dimond are one of the best cases. For most types of shooting it costs more to load your own, and you hace all the hassel. ocasionaly I get duff ones where the end of the cartridge is slightly belled or the base has not resized properly, these jam! markadams
Do you have to import the powders, primers etc from the states are can you purchase them in the UK? If so can you give me contact details with maybe a web site. Can you buy them on a normal SGC? Mark.
NGhost
Most gun shops can get the bits, Adenbourne nr oxford do lots of powders and bits. European powders can be cheaper. If you are near linconshire try http://www.claygame.co.uk. You dont even need a shotgun cert.
markadams
Thank you for your reply, so let me get this straight, you are saying that I can buy any quantity of powder, primers etc without a shotgun cert but I need an SGC to buy fully loaded cartridges. This sounds a little strange to me, can anyone confirm this. Mark.
NGhost
Honest. It gets even better:- You need an explosives licence (form F) for black powder, and it has to be kept safe. I can store 10Kg of nitro next to the fire place if I wish. :but:
ernyha
Mark,Idont know how old you are but surely you must know by now that very little makes sense in English law, especially when shooting is involved!
everygoodnamewastaken
You dont need your sgc to get loading components
neil
Yep,the reason they give is that until all of the componants are assembled they are not actually classed as ammunition, its the same for reloading rifle ammunition, its a funny old world

markadams
ernyha, I am 28 and yes I should know better, the UK law never stops to amaze me. I have lived here all my life and shooting laws seem to be such a hashed mess it is no wonder people hardly ever get prosecuted using them Mark.
