I've got a heavy barrelled 700, no idea what twist rate it has but it can shoot a 2.5" 5 shot group of 55g vmax at 400yds. I'll find out more if its really important?

all info would be appreciated mate, i dont want to make the mistake off getting a gun thats not right, so doing my homework.

I had the 700 Tactical. Now at Adenbourne for sale afaik.

It was too heavy for long field use with a mod, but it shot well. I put a Rifle basix trigger in it. Shot from 40 to some 75 grain bullets.

Recommended if you are OK with the weight.

If you want something light which is 1:9, have you thought about Savage?

do you find it a heavy gun and what about the gun overall.

yes the rifle is heavy, especially with NXS on top & bipod but I use it mainly for lamping from a 4x4 - when the 20" barrel is useful - or sitting up overlooking bait.

If I'm going for a yomp I'll take the sporter weight .243

happy with the package (needs the factory trigger sorting)

cheers

to be totally honest, i havent looked no further than the rem or a browning x bolt. Might start looking a bit further a field.

Mines the same set up as AndyCM, and I use it the same way, certainly wouldn't want to carry it far but it's a tack driver on hand loads and very little walks away from it. I have a Browning A bolt to walk about with and its exellant, shot sub half inch out of the box with 40g vmax. (both .223)

Ive got the remington 700 PSS in .223 and .308..

I believe theyre 1:9 twists, but like others have said, they group very well.. And to be honest, if its a foxing rifle, the extra weight is a good thing.. I like the police as the HS precision stock is really comfortable to shoot with and i have a jewell trigger in the .223, a lot better than the standard trigger i have in my .308. The .223 had had a couple of inches lopped off the end and been threadded, cant say its altered the accuracy, the .308 is a full 26'' of heavy barrel. The .308 groups very well out to 300yds (not managed to play at any larger ranges yet) and the .223 which is obviously a little more susceptible to wind still is sweet to shoot out to 300yds..

can the remmies be ordered with the HS precision stock./ also wwho supplies the jewell trigger kits.?

I tried to get a jewell trigger for the .308 and apparently, according to my local gunshop, theyre difficult to get at the mo due to demand or production, although that was about 3 months ago. On the HS Precision stock front, try rimfire magic, they take them off rifles that they customise for people and you'll generally get a good deal on a second hand (new) stock.. And they bolt straight on, only takes 10 mins...

I have a Rem 700 Tactical, 20", 1-9", Jewell trigger with HS Precision stock. Rimfire Magic put this together for me and supply the HS Precision as "take offs" from other customers that have upgraded, cost is about £200 iirc.

Accuracy is sub 1/2" with reloads or 1" with factory ammo, I think the 20" barrel will lose about 200fps over a 25" barrel.

Remingtons triggers are excellant, and easily adjustable to a reasonable weight. There is no need to spend the extra cash, put it into a scope

Always going to be a matter of debate, I note someone else has said they are rubbish......anyway, I sit somewhere in the middle.

The X Mark Pro is a step up from their last and I am perfectly happy with it for my purposes!

My 700SPS had the X Mark on it, and the pull was adjustable between 8lb, and somwhere near to 3lb.

At the 3lb it was still a bit much, and being at the lower end of it's adjustment it felt unsafe, although it passed the drop test and bolt slam.

I changed it to a rifle basix unit, which goes from 8oz to 1.5lb, from rimfiremagic.

Replacing the trigger transformed the rifle, the groups immediately went sub MOA (guess I was pulling it to one side before).

The pull is set at it's top end of 1.5lb, it is crisp, and it feels so much safer.

Just my two pence worth.

My remington 700 VLS .243 has the older trigger unit and I striped the trigger and put 2 new springs in and set it at 1.5lbs and it's a big improvement to what it was, also put a HS precision stock and devcon bedded it and put a tubs firing pin and spring in and that has improved the lock time, And fitted a set of ken farrel picatinney bases and rings and zeiss scope and it will hold it's own against any factory rifle out there.
