KennyB
just mounted a scope on a 22lr that i have brought of nickbeardo and he kindly gave me a pair of mounts as well which i believe are high ones,, i have noticed the scope is sitting very high of the barrel about 1/2 an inch, will this affect it anyway or should i get lower mounts?? bigstevouk
Should be ok mate, if you can get the eye relief and get straight on target with the scope it should be ok...

THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
I've got a 452 fitted with a 42mm scope on low mounts. When I first got this rifle I used high mounts & hated them, went to med but fancied lower. Couldn't do it with a 50mm scope. I now much prefer the 42mm + low mounts set up. Dekers
You are best to keep the scope as sensibly close to the barrel as possible. 1/2" gap is quite a lot, you will notice better multy distance consistancy, on a fairly close range tool like the .22lr, if you drop the scope. Not so important on 1000 yard tools!!
casts_by_fly
They look a little funny and don't like to sit upright on sandbags as easily, but otherwise high mounts aren't really a problem for field use. My deer rifle has see through mounts and the rest of my guns have high mounts. So long as your eye relief sits where your face naturally fits on the stock, go with it. If you find you are forcing yourself to lift your head up to meet the scope (taking your cheek higher or off the comb) then it would make sense to switch lower. Thanks, Rick
