SSS
Me, chunkyed and another mate of ours, Matt, went to Garlands earlier for a bash at skeet. I have hated shooting skeet ever since I first had a go. So we had 25 on skeet and packed up to go home. As we got to the clubhouse, I said "shall we have a go at DTL". Bearing in mind, none of us have shot it before, we decided it would be worth a go. Had 25 clays and I shot 21 out of 25 with my SxS yeoman. Just thought I would share my success with you all, and I should also say, I never claim to be a AA clas shot Its about my best score so far, and I shall definitely give it another go
HDAV
Had 25 clays and I shot 21 out of 25 with my SxS yeoman. That's good shotting mate, did you get them all first barrel? My first go was not as good as that but it was fun. The regulars often score 75 a round and 5 of them all doing it is a sight I watch a full line miss 3 clays in total! 122 out fo 125! How much does a line cost up by you?
SSS
Thanks HDAV It was £6 each for

Just thought I would share my success with you all, and I should also say, I never claim to be a AA clas shot Its about my best score so far, and I shall definitely give it another go DTL can get addictive, but it is a mental exercise in concentration and nothing else. you have to learn to focus only on the next target. It's the easiest disipline to shoot but the most frustrating. Your first goal is to shoot 25 straight using both barrels, then 25 with 25 shots. once you have done that you will find they come fairly often, next is to string four of them together for the magical 100 straight, then your on the road to success and maybe national honours or even the england team. I well remember my very first go at clays, it was a 10 DTL at a local garden fete, the first prize was £5.00. i was 15 and had been using my dads old sxs for a while at rabbits, i arrived brimming with confidence and had already decided how i was going to spend this easy cash, i paid my two shillings (it was a while ago) and waited my turn to shoot, a few of my mates were there and i told them how good i was and to watch me shoot. Of course i failed miserably, missing every one of the clays. i just wanted to crawl away and hide, but i learned a valuable lesson that day. Never count your chickens, and there is no such thing as an easy target if you need them all to win. Years later i took it a bit more seriously and represented my county and my country, but i think my finest hour was winning the English Open Single Barrel Championship (DTL one shot only) 100 straight and 25 straight in a shoot off. So with good luck and good shooting you can achieve anything if you want it badly enough.
originalgeezer
Oh can so see how DTL can be addictive, I have only been shooting for 13 weeks (Sporting and twice doing Skeet as well) and I had my first go at DTL this weekend. At first I thought it would be boring, but I was convinced to have a go and yep I loved it. Because I am a new shoot, if i didnt hit it with my first, I let it fly on the basis that I more likely to miss with the second barrel, so being a tight wad, didnt want to waste the cart. That said, out of my first 25 i got 12 and yeah...... i had to have a second go, and that time i got 15 and had some idea what was going on
joeainscow
I'm quite fortunate that one of my m8's i went to college with has been on the England juniors team for 4 years at DTL. He's been coaching me quite alot as i tag along with him for his practices. Since he's going of to south africa in a few weeks the practices have intensified. Watching him shoot is amazing. The speed that he picks up the target is untrue. The second shot is off almost instantly to claim the largest piece left. He just doesn't miss. I've not had the magic 100 but i've done 50 first barrel regularly now. I just loose concentration after 50 and start getting nervous. The key to it is gun placement and rhythm. Pull one BANG, Pull one BANG. Stick to a set rhythm and you will have consistency. Joe EDIT I'm paying £3 for 25 clays and £37 for 250 eley olympics. HDAV
EDIT I'm paying £3 for 25 clays and £37 for 250 eley olympics. Wow thats cheap and good luck to your mate I managed 14 on my third go at DTL but i am getting better at seeing my misses now, its just a cost time thing If it was £1 for 25 ande £2 a box i would happily try a 100 each week! but at £5.50 and £4 25-50 is my limit, I hope it improves my sporting shooting. joeainscow
DTL won't really improve your sporting. You'd be far better off doing some skeet so that you can experience how different angles effect the lead needed. DTL great fun but if you want to push yourself a bit more try ABT. richg
The one and only I know Terry very well indeed, we have been friends for over thirty years, we shot together when he won the DTL World title in 1994 at Mid Wales. If i remember he scored 898/900 and beat the Australian Bill I'lles in the shoot off. It was a three day shoot and he shot 100/300 on the first day, 100/299 on the second and 100/299 on the third, it was a great display of shooting under pressure. there were over 400 guns from nine countries. I by the way, came eleventh overall. a result i was very pleased with.
