bothbarrels
I've got a 9 yr old chocholate lab bitch, who i've taken out beating, working inline pushing the birds forwards with the beaters, (since she was around 2 yrs) old,we've also stood behind the guns and picked up, for over 7yrs, she showed absoloutely no signs of being gun shy whatso-ever. but last week, I took her pigeon roost shooting, I set up our hide and we were both tucked inside, however , when I took a shot at a roosting bird she fled the hide and ran off into the woods, obviuousley distressed and shaking, i called it a day not wanting to upset her anymore, now even if I get my gun out of it's case she starts to shake, and goes out of the room, has she 'lost her bottle' with age,or was the enclosed space of the hise, and not beiong able to see whats going on to blame.. is there can do to make her confident again ? BB.

Yes it was mate, we've walked up, and she's flushed and I've shot, but first time in the enclosed space of a hide. BB.
new to the flock
Did you shoot over top of her? As in the gun barrel over her head, or the shot traveling over her head? NTTF
bothbarrels
Did you shoot over top of her? As in the gun barrel over her head, or the shot traveling over her head? NTTF No, she was behind me, I was standing up tp take the shot, wondering if I should give it another go and tether her so she can't run? maybe that'll make her worse tho
new to the flock
I would suggest that you get her out rough shooting, and only shoot while she is in pursute of game or birds for a while. Be sure that there is some distance between her and the gun and that she is focused on the quarry. NTTF
UKPoacher
Try setting up in her in a hide, shooting and have her retrieve a dummy. Give it a few shots with a retrieve every time then wean her off to two out of three, half and half, and so on. When you are actually hide shooting for real give her some retrieves of the dummy after you've fired a shot or two.
