dead-eye-dick
If, when to get to your fields, you can't find birds flying, but some are on a field, but when walked off dissapper into the middle distance not to return with 1/2 hr A. set up in the field and hope for the best. B. set up under a known flight line (even thought you have not seen anything on it) C. Go home Also in this situation would you then put a big flock of decoys with a rotor and floaters to attract attention What sort of ratio of shells to full bodied do you use?? Cranfield
If you see birds actually feeding on a field and you WALK them off, there is a good chance, they will return, or other birds will come. Set up as near to where they were as possible. I would put out as many decoys as looks "comfortable", making sure you leave a clear "killing area". Use your rotor and your floaters. If birds appear consistently, but don,t come to the decoys, I change the layout. Sometimes by reducing the number of decoys, or take in a floater, or change the layout shape. Don,t forget, every trip doesn,t end with 100 bird bags. I wish I had kept records, but I expect my trip/birds average is not that high. Has anyone else kept this information ? Tony
Regarding averages, I try to forget!!  As for walked off birds, hopefully they were feeding in the same part of the field that I had sussed out the day before. If this was the case then I would probably setup in that area and wait for the next 'shift' to arrive. I like to remain optimistic about these things! dead-eye-dick
So, to recap, If you arrive at your farms to find that there are no birds in the air, but you see a feeding flock, YOU take a chance and set up near to this patch. Assuming that this is a patch of field bird expect to find a feeding flock (decoys) ? Sounds like a gameplan to me :(
Hammergun
Was told on Friday there's "loads of pigeons gobbling up the rape" Set out, and waited, and waited, and waited. Nothing in the bag but a foolish cock pheasant which flew in front of my hide. No pigeons at all. Not even anything flying about.
