682
The land I'm currently shooting on has a fair number of crows/rooks as well as Wood Pigeons. At the moment I'm just using pigeon decoys, although I've shot a few of the crows, by standing under their flightline and taking some high passing-over shots with a 12b. Question is - Can I also put out a few full shell crow decoys with my Pigeon decoys (15 full shells and a rotor) in order to try and attract both crows and Pigeons, or will this scare the pigeons? would it work? If I look on the surrounding oilseed rape fields there are usually crows/rooks on the field, if there are already pigeons feeding, but I don't know if the pigeons generally try to avoid the crows? Although my main interest is in the Woodies. It would be great to be able to get a decent mixed bag of pigeons and crows (saying that, at the moment, it would be good to get a decent bag of just pigeons  ) Thanks,
Cranfield
This topic has been discussed before and seems to be a matter of personal belief. I don,t think crows and wood pigeons feed on the same things and therefore are not attracted, or repelled, by each other. I have heard that a single crow decoy gives pigeons confidence, as the crow has a reputation for being extra wary. I can,t see how pigeons would know this, even if it were true. I have shot crows using crow decoys (no pigeons came to the decoys). I have shot pigeons using pigeon decoys (no crows came to the decoys). No doubt other people have had different experiences. highdowns hunter
one day last year on a field of rape stubble I put a couple of crow decoys down about 15 yards away from my pigeon deeks and they pulled in both crows and jackdaws it was a very windy day and the crows seemed to be hovering above me trying to reassure themselves before landing
harryhawk
I have had some success by putting rook, crow, jackdaw or even magpie on a whirly and just having a day on the corvids. I don't know if anyone has had any luck with putting a pigeon and a rook on at the same time?
sutty
I usually put out half a dozen crow deeks out to the edge of a pigeon pattern ,approx 10\15 yds away, this works ok for me. also if the pigeons have been scarce i have put a couple of crows on the rotor and had some good days on them. needless to say keep them in range but away from the hide . i also use a crow caller but think it needs a little more practice on my part ,but i have drawn the odd one over using it . regards sutty
