Ballymac
Hi to all, I have just recently joined the forum but have been reading some of the topic to gain some valuable help for the last few months. I am in my first year shooting pigeons so only a beginner. Here is the scenario I went out yesterday afternoon 2pm, dull and calm weather, setup in a field where there were hundreds of crows and pigeons feeding (barley stubble) and within the first ten minutes had shot 7 pigeons and a crow. The next half hour nothing. Lots of birds in the air but they all moved into a neighbouring field. There was probably 30 acres in total in four different, but neighbouring fields all barley stubble. I moved my hide and pattern and had success for another short time. About 4pm went to another field on the other side of the farm and spent another hour and shot 20 more. My question is how to I attract the birds in to my pattern when there is similar feeding in the other fields. I have full bodied and half body deeks that seem to work. Is it necessary to have a magnet and flapper etc .
Cranfield
Welcome Ballymac, fill in your location on your profile, just to give us an idea where you are located. This can help with advice, as "local" shooters can respond. You mention it was dull and calm, I don't know where you were shooting, but yesterday afternoon there was barely a stiff breeze in South Kent. In these conditions its easy to scare the birds off your field, especially when there is suitable feeding close by. Wind can help by masking your shots and keeping the birds on the move I doubt there was much wrong with your decoys and pattern, but who knows whether a rotary , or flapper, would have helped. I suspect the weather conditions didn't do you any favours.

the hitman
sometimes when you move birds off your chosen field try firing a few shots to lift them .if the birds stay in the area after that a rotary would help.take a mate and split your fire power or just wait for windy conditions.
