I'm just back from belfast, seeing David Coulthard in the red bull F1 car giving it the hammers in front of city hall. Even though it didn't start till 8, we decided to leave early, so at 6 o'clock we were out the door, a half hour drive and we're parked for 6:45. We looked around, tried to figure out where the action would be, and got a good place to stand, near the end, 30 yards or so from the red bull arch. So we wait for an hour or so, whilst the crowds pile in. David goes for a little drive in a nice audi convertible to figure out the course (first time I've ever seen him have to do a 3 point turn  ). The end of the road by the arch was really narrow, only 15 yards or so barrier to barrier, so we could tell that it was going to be tight, we came to the conclusion that he'd have to slide it round. Anyways, after a drawn out build up, the event is under way. The hive of angry hornets fires up and out he comes (from here on, I'll let the video tell the tale)

(excuse the rubbish video quality, camera phone)

The engine is overheating big style doing all this, so he returns to the pits (well, that white tent) and lets it cool down

Before coming out for another run

again the engine overheats, and he pits. There was a third and final run, but I didn't get it on camera, and a bit of a hoorah with him in the back of the audi with a red bull flag

As you can see, there were a few very hairy moments, the very first run (not on film) he was literally inches from the safety barrier when doing doughnuts at the end there. The camera really doesn't do the sound justice, it was amazing (and yes, that is an alarm in the backround you hear, the noise set it off :look:

A great night had, not every day you see an F1 car, in the middle of belfast, going very fast (142, 148 and 152 mph on each run), nearly crashing many times. On the very first run, after turning, he floored it, hit a light bump just at the traffic lights (he ran the red btw) and went sideways down the road!

Gotta love Red Bull advertising!
