To lube or not to lube

The skirt is designed (I think it was a Frenchman who designed it) so that the thin metal expands to fill the barrel, creating a tighter seal. So I can see some truth in this, but not to the extent of a pellet which has more than a 1mm dent on the skirt.

Now I'm going to end up denting a pellet and shooting it into a bucket of water, CSI style, to see what shape the skirt is after shooting it. Looks like I've opened a can of worms here, but it's all good stuff. I can see I have a lot to learn. And once I've got all the theory sorted, then all I need to do is learn to shoot straight.

As long as the skirt is not badly deformed it will reshape itself in the bore when fired. The skirts are designed to spread to fit the bore as tightly as sensible.

The primary problem will be the variable amount of air that escapes past it during this period which will inevitably have an unknown effect on the POI from shot to shot!

:good:

for the bent skirt me thinks you should try not guess i have tried it and know the answer (i dont wast pellets on the floor anymore)

for the lube if done right can give good results but for hunting up to around 50yds IMO not really worth the bother

better to get the best pellets you can rather than try and improve cheep ones

toms mate with his verminator knows the pellet to buy
