robbobsam
Hiya Guys, I could do with a little guidance from you guys please, I am looking at getting some binoculars and a range finder to help me accurately assess ranges when stalking. I am looking currently looking at Swarovski, zeis, leica and leupold, and I am not sure which one to go for, In addition I am also looking to get a range finder and am interested in the Leica Geovids which offer top notch binos with a range finder built in. I am not sure whether the Leicas would be a good buy or whether I would do better buying separate binos and range finder. Can you offer your opinions on separate or all in one solutions to my quandry and different manufacturers to look at for the best options please? Thanks guys. AndyCM
you need to read a recent review in Varmint Hunter Magazine Hiya Guys, I could do with a little guidance from you guys please, I am looking at getting some binoculars and a range finder to help me accurately assess ranges when stalking. flyingfisherman
Funnily enough, ive just bought a pair of binos and went through the same mind set as yourself. I was looking at Leupolds as i have a few scopes by the and i cant fault them. I also looked at the bushnell elite range as i again, have a scope from the same range. After some investigation i found that its not necessarily the case that if a manufacturer produces a good scope, they produce a good set of binos. I didnt even bother looking at the swarovski or leicas as they are out of my price bracket. I also thought about range finding and had to ask myself a few questions; 1) What type of stalking do i do? (woodland/hill/arable) 2) If im woodland stalking, am i going to be shooting deer over 200yds where bullet drop becomes a BIG factor? 3) If im woodland stalking, is a roe deer going to stand still long enough for me to glass it with the binos, then zap it with a rangefinder then set myself up for the shot? A range finder may be nice for shooting targets or zeroing over my land where i do not have a set range, but for the extra cash i would have to spend, i may as well keep it and use gmap pedometer on the web to measure distances between points. A good website with a lot of deals is opticswarehouse. I have always had good dealings with them and very discount prices. The other consideration is magnification, i was initially thinking 10x50 or something along those lines but after even more research, i found that 10x for woodland stalking is too much and there is the optimum power vs. objective for light gathering. I settled for 8x ish by 50 ish.. I went to my local gunshop and tried all of his binos as i believe its a very personal choice, i dont like buying on spec. A range fo binos which i had never heard of interested me, they were minox. Big camera company and after searching for reviews, i settled on the HG 8.5x52. the HG is ''High Grade'' They do a cheaper range as well. I did get a price from my local gun shop, as i like to give them business if theyre fairly competitive, but they wanted over £700 for the above bins, whereas i got them off the net for a shade over £400.. http://www.cliftoncameras.co.uk/Minox_HG_8...2_BR_Binoculars http://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/categorie...?cat=Binoculars

wild-fire
To much faff with both buy all in one Leica Geovid 8x56 ideal make up an elasticated waist strap that clips off to stop them bouncing when you are covering ground at speed.
