togger
I normally take a partner to hold the lamp, either my son or the father in law. The lamp I have been using was a £20ish all rounder from B&Q, fitted with a red gel. It's a 3.5 million candle power and isn't to bad for about half an hour on/off use but then it drains quite quick. I'm looking for something which can be used by a second person, or can be fitted to the gun. I already have a nightsearcher 12v 7A battery which is used for one of my video camera lights, so I can probably use this battery although a higher amperage would be better. So, for you guy's who already have something, what do you recommend as a replacement, and why Togger
albob
scope mounted 170 with dimmer..also add to that a red and amber filter for later use. use mine handheld to and the beam is adjustable for height on scope mounting and adjustable from spot to flood beam. only problem is the wiring, watch it carefully but, once sorted it gives great service out in the field. batteries i use are 12v/17amp if going for fox or 12v/9amp if rabbiting and as i walk on my shoots, weight can be a issue with batteries. also if you use cigar socket fittings on them, they have a problem of coming loose over time,so be prepared for it and change to a better fitting that maybe actually locks together(i did on mine and now is very good and no problem with it) al
inthedark
240 blitz with a red / orange filter converted to a ford plug for in the truck, clulight for walking up. Got a lot of open flat land, hence the 240, the other lightforce products are just as good, depends what you need. As stated above. the plugs are **** and need replacing. Luckyshot
Another vote for Lightforce, I have 3 of them and have never had any problems with either of them 240 Blitz hand held, 170 Striker scope mounted and another 170 Striker for the top of the Landy. albob
Thanks guy's. Looks like it's going to be the Lightforce 170. Togger if you do get one and you buy the filters, you will find when you put them on the lamp, they give splashback and light you up. i use a car inner tube that goes over the filter edge and cover the lip at the front and the clip on tags on the side. al
Beardo
sounds like you haven't pushed the filter all the way on - it's almost two stage - 1 click puts it on but doesn't seal the edges - keep pushing and it locks in place.

richie223
as above lightforce all the way

albob
we have crossed wires here i think nick. i do not mean leaking light from the filter not being clipped on enough, that is clipped on fully. when the filter is on and you have it on the scope and have it at your side pointing in front of you,the light from the clipped on filter lights you up,meaning it is from the filter and not a leaking light from the filter not clipped on enough. hope that made it more clearer.. al

togger
Well my 170 arrived this morning along with red filter. (I only ordered it yesterday!) Good service from Optics Warehouse. Just been out on the fields with it, what can I say ...... wow!!!! I can't believe the difference in brightness compared to what i've been using, and that was a 3.5 million candle power! Without the red filter it was lighting trees up at 1/4 mile away, outstanding! Popped on the red filter and still a great concentrated bright range. Can't wait to get out tomorrow to try it rabbiting and foxing. Thanks to everyone who recommended it.

I have the same but upped my bulb to 100 watts....without my red filter i can light up the next farm!!!!! Superb, the brighter bulb helps make the light stronger through the red too.
