Cranfield
"Best times", depend on lots of factors, including the weather, local disturbance and the worst one to work out , how the pigeons feel. Observation on the fields is the only answer , unless you can devote a whole day to giving it a try, which is what a lot of people do and then comment that late morning and afternoon were the "hot" times (for example). I'm afraid in my opinion, there are no "Rules". pete k
is the maize still standing or has it been cut , if the pigeons and crows are feeding on it then you could be shooting all day as they really love the stuff , if you are going for crows then get there before it gets light , and welcome to the site aswell pete

mossy835
they might land on the outside of it but they will have a job to land in the middle of it .for you to decoy it
The Beater
Never seen pigeons feeding on maize that is standing and uncut. How will they get at the cob when its incased in leaves, I know they open up as the cob gets ripe but usully cut in my area before that.
