Sometimes, when using flake powder, the charge can 'bridge' in the tube or bush, or the press may fail to drop a charge. A wad up the barrel is almost certainly a cartridge with no powder. Was the wad sooty?
Guest cookoff013
sounds like a squib load...... what is your recipe? ---help us out buddy is it fibre wad?- what was your wad pressure? 50lbs is good for a fibre load. was there an over powder card missing? did you load it on the low powder side? if you did, stick to the recipe. was there unburnt flecks of powder? thats what happens when the pressure drops too low. - stick to the recipe. was the crimp nice and tight? recheck your loader. and your recipe. squib loads are really dangerous. EMcC
The term 'Squib load' is commonly used when referring to a cartridge with a reduced load, either intentionally or by accident when using a progressive loader and the powder charge either sticks in the dropper tube or the main container runs out of powder before you realise it. In other words the charge goes 'puff' instead of bang and the projectile stays in the barrel. Sometimes squib loads are made intentionally so that shooting can be done in basements or back yards. Squib load is an 'Americanism' for a reduced charge.

Vince Green
Did the shot run out of the barrel when the missfire occoured if you upended it? That means no powder. The primer alone is capable of pushing the charge and wads 3-4 inches into the barrel. If there was loads of unburnt pwder everywhere when you opened the gun it means you need to go to a magnum primer. Thats very rare.
