steveb Posted May 12, 2010 Report Share Posted May 12, 2010 (edited) You would only have to get your own gun reproofed if you have had any work done that has removed a certain amount of material from the bore, ie lapping to remove pits or having the choke altered, or if you have had it sleeved or lined. No. Years/carts etc? when a barrel gets worn or pitted, it usually has enough meat on it to allow the gun to be lapped once or twice, a gunsmith will be able to tell if the barrel is in proof or not, sadly, once out of proof they need replacing/ sleeving.
