jammie*dodger
I want to get my daughter into shooting. Currently I shoot clays and was thinking of taking her along to operate the trap for me. The idea is to show her what it;s all about and hopefully allow her to soak up some of the behaviour and safety that would be expected of her. After a while I'd then like to move her onto a gun of her own. so questions; 1. Would it be OK to take her? She's got her head screwed on right and can follow instructions to the letter. 2. How long should I leave it before introducing her to the gun? 3. When we finally go for a gun what should it be? 20 bore? 4. At what age can she get her own license/compete? 5. Should I approach the ground owner first or do you think it would be no problem? Thanks, Rob.

Spaniel
Had my daughter operating the clay trap for me at the age of 6.....its only a case of pressing a button, and she had more fun collecting the un-broken clays afterwards :o She is 8 now and i have onkl let her fire the Air riffle, maybe a couple of years time she can have ago on the

It's not one of the old fashioned manual ones. Air rifle would be a good start - maybe some plinking if I can find a local club. Thanks for the idea, Rob
alexr
If you are going to start her off with an air gun why not go to one of the country fairs. there are often stalls there where she can have a go...... They are not like the ones when we were kids where if you could hit the bull you got a gold fish. These are the real deal PCP's like the HW100 and are supervised. Its also a good day out. ( though I am sure you are already aware of that , sorry :o )

Don't understand that comment :o What has taking his daughter with him got to do with walting? :o Rob - sounds like a good idea, but I hope she's got a longer attention span than my lad :o I took him along to button etc and he was bored out of his skull and has never shown any interest since :o Mind you, he's so hopelessly addicted to crappy computer games, I think everything else is booooooring :o

Thanks for the idea, Rob Shepreth airgun club have a few junior members, they also have a plinking range and you can loan club guns too. SAGC website I think getting her to operate the trap is also a good idea as long as you get ear protection that fits her.
miroku4399
My little girl is 5 I have told her we will be going camping where I have got permission, kids are the future of our beloved sport and should be encouraged as early as they can. Well done to you for encouraging her. I'll get off my orange box now Shane

That looks great. I'll see about going with her and see what she thinks. Fancy having a go myself, it's been ages since I've had my hands on an air rifle. ebygum32
My daughter who is 9 has been using my airarms 410 for the past few years in the garden (long garden and fields to the rear) and can get groupings sub 1" at 30ish yards, She has asked me about clay shooting so asked my local club and they said bring her down near the end of the day, one of the guys had 410 double barrel with him and he took her to one side gave her the basics of the gun showed her the clays and then took her to one of the free traps, nelt down with her and explained what would happen then loaded 2 1/2" cart into one of the chambers, she missed the first clay and looked abit shocked as she was not expecting the bang and kick even though we told her about it before hand, she said she wanted another go, long and short of it she dusted 4 out of 8 clays, did not want to let her have any more goes as it was her first time and could damage her shoulder, plus she did better than me So she says she wants to do it again and i will happily support her, she is safe with weapons and understands that you do not play with them or point them at anyone, So go see your local club they might already have something in place for kids to go, If you don't ask you don't get
