Tried fitting my S&B scope to my tikka t3 yesterday, i had medium rings that came with the rifle. But unfortunately the scope hits the barrel and wont fit properly in the front ring, so need higher rings.

The rings i have i think are one piece units, unsure of make no markings, they clamp striaght to the receiver.

Now im unsure what i need to mount my scope.

Any help suggestions?

Which T3 is it? Lite or Varmint?

I have a T3 lite (6.5x55) with medium rings and an S&B 8x56 30mm, fits fine, in fact I could have got away with low rings. Don't forget you will need Optilock bases to go with your Optilock rings

I think its the varmint, it has heavy barrel, had to have it screw cut.

Can i get one piece ring/base? Any idea where from?

Hi,

Quality rifle and quality scope. On my T3 and Leupold, I used swivel mounts/rings. Don't know if that was the correct terminology, but the mounts fit onto the rifle in the desired position, the front ring is a transition fit which locates into the mount and rotates ( do not use the scope, bit of broom pole or whatever ) and the rear is slotted to engage in a screw head on either side of its mount. You can get various heights to suit. The advantage is that leaving the scope windage adjustment in the centre (null) position you can zero for windage using these screws with, perhaps, a final click or two on the windage turret to "fine tune" if necessary. The advantage being is that you know that your scope is in perfct alignment with the barrel.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Hmmm that may be the difference as with the lite there is a slope off just after the receiver which means it will accomodate lower mounts/bigger objective...

Just re-read your original post, thought you had Tikka rings... if it is a big S&B you may well just need higher mounts/rings...

Do you know what Optilock mounts/rings look like, try and look them up if not.

Many Tikkas/Sako have these and if you have, they are not One piece and you just need higher rings!
