Chris Bb
"Clay Shooter" magazine issue 1 available free from gunshops and clay grounds. Seems to be OK with selection of articles and ads. Can't be bad at that price! They've had such magazines and/or newspapers for boats and horses for years, now, perhaps, its our turn.

shade695
clay shooter has been out a while I have been buying it myself for months from WH Smiths, I taken out a subscription with sporting gun which I am not too keen on, but will let it run it's course has some good articles but more for hunting orientated, as I too prefer clays at the moment (just a nipper) as just a newbie at the sport

I picked a copy up today at the NCSC and was very impressed for a free magazine, long may it continue Jon.
Chard
We were given a copy in the goodie bag at the Beretta World. I have to say it was more interesting than Clay Shooting and far more interesting than Pull. Not sure how long they can continue to fill it with readable material though. Time will tell. This is the problem with all magazines, after a while it's all been said before and it gets hard to keep finding good stuff to fill them with. They appear to have done a very good job attracting advertisers, which after all is what finances these things. Most of the big names are there, with full-page colour ads. Again, time will tell whether the advertisers stick with it. Nice job, very readable
Chris Bb
couldnt find it in whsmiths today It's a freebie only available at shooting related businesses, not newsagents. clay shooter has been out a while I have been buying it myself for months from WH Smiths, I taken out a subscription with sporting gun which I am not too keen on, but will let it run it's course has some good articles but more for hunting orientated, as I too prefer clays at the moment (just a nipper) as just a newbie at the sport "Clay Shooter" not "Clay Shooting". Confusing, I agree.

Chard
Any web site ? They list one in the magazine www.claysportermagazine.com but if you enter that address, it takes you to the website of Sporting Shooter magazine. There is obviously a connection, as James Marchington is editor of both and both are published by Archant Ltd Perhaps Clay Shooter is a trial freebie for a forthcoming new magazine with paid subscription. Mr Potter
Exactly what I thought Chard, which only goes to prove that geniuses often think alike The trouble with me (well one of many ) is that I can't stop subscribing to shooting magazines and I've got to STOP. I currently get Pull & BASC with my respective memberships, tempting to call them "free" but they're patently not!!! I stopped Clay Shooting magazine for a couple of years but re-subscribed again about 12 months ago for some inexplicable reason Sporting Gun I must admit I've been subscribing for more years than I care to remember and Sporting Shooter I think since it was started, I also get Shooting Gazette delivered to my door. Did start the cutting back process about 2 months ago by canceling my Shooting Times which was the most expensive as it was weekly. One thing I always say I'm going to do is cancel just before the Midland Game Fair and re-subscribe there with the (usual) bribe of a bottle of something alcoholic I might say I'm going to do it but to-date I never have. I also generally agree that after a couple of years all the articles are re-cycled and the product tests are very good at giving you the technical details of guns & cartridges but useless at anything else. When have you ever seen a review that said this gun or that cartridge is rubbish and you shouldn't touch it even if it was free For what it's worth here's my marks out of 10 for the mags I buy. PULL! 6.5/10 Would probably not bother if I had to buy separately. BASC (Shooting & Conservation) 6.5/10 As Pull! Clay Shooting 7 /10 Will probably stick with but would like to see more objective tests & reports. Sporting Shooter 6.5/10 Difficult one, it's a real toss up between this and Sporting Gun. Lots of stuff I'm not interested in, rifles, fox shooting, stalking etc but is very comprehensive. Sporting Gun 7/10 See above (Sporting Shooter) think it's probably the crossword that shades it for me Shooting Gazette 7.5/10 Totally irrational, suppose it's an aspirational thing but love to see what I can't afford (OK and Hello equivalent for poor shooters!) Clay Shooter 7/10 If it becomes a regular thing could give Clay Shooting a serious competitor. After re-reading my ramblings I think I know what I'll do. Will stick with Clay Shooting and Sporting Gun but will probably cancel Sporting Shooter and Shooting Gazette, but will probably buy the Gazette from newsagents 3 or 4 times a year. I think my choices above are influenced by the fact I'm probably 85% clay shooter and 15% pigeon & game shooter (hope to change this balance with more pigeon shooting after I retire) so I can imagine someone whose percentages are reversed would have a completely different slant on things.
