Catton Hall Wed - 30 June

Recommended Posts

Went to Catton hall yesterday, took a friend from work who has had a couple of lessons there, Really enjoyed it, they put a 3 man flush on which was interesting!

Saw NickyT and few others there too

My friend Shot well, me Dad (Mr Potter) was like a man possessed, Think I can count on one hand the targets he missed!! Just a pity he cant do that each time out!!

I bought some cartridges there 21g Comp X 7.5's, Well these shells are the way forward!! The kills i was getting at the rangey stuff was immense!! They were so softy on recoil, I put a rougue Eley blue i had in my pocket in and the difference was unbelieveable!!

I am serioulsy considering swapping to them, Well when I say swapping, I mean trying to convert my Dad to them so I can steal these from him!! :good: :good: :P:hmm::lol:

Anyone else used these shells? What did you think of them

Sounds like my son with Bank of DAD except the government wont bail me out.

Yes I've used them when I've taken a lesson at Doveridge because there own brand shells are compX & I can say they will hit anything, but then I think ther's a lot of snobbery around cartridges people think that the top of the range stuff is best but I only shoot cheep ones (no such thing) at £138 a thou and I don't do bad.

Try a 24 grm also they are good :hmm::)

You will have a long, long wait boy :P:P:P Can't disagree, they were a soft shooting cartridge that killed well even at range BUT there are only 3 reasons for using them. Firstly if the rules demand it (Olympic disciplines require 24g), secondly if you need to shoot a very low recoiling cart because of shoulder/neck/back problems or finally if the lower cost was the difference between affording to shoot or staying at home.

We could have a multi page thread on choosing a cart that patterns well through your gun, pattern plate testing, speed of cartridges, perceived recoil, degrees of choke etc, etc, etc.

I've no doubt that all these things have a part to play in deciding which shell to buy but a lot better shooters than me think know that all modern cartridges are good, the differences between brands are minimal and one thing that is universally true is that you can't beat pellets in the pattern. According to the Eley Shooter's Diary there are 441 size 8 pellets in a 28g load and 331 in a 21g load, that 110 fewer pellets. At some stage during a 100 bird comp thats got to make a difference, if not this week then next.

I'm firmly with Claybuster on this one, the vast majority of people buy carts with our hearts not our heads, I shoot mainly Eley Superbs but when I've shot Blues or even Olympics my scores haven't suffered but that idiot of a brain always says that Superbs MUST be better cos there £X dearer. As I'm typing this I'm determined to buy Blues next time I need carts but I bet the idiot makes me say Superbs please when my mouth opens :lol: :o

Long story short, I'm not changing to 21g, I'm not even dropping to 24g but I'm sticking 28g until either the rules change or the British & English Sporting championships are won with them.

Mr Potter

PS

Son, I've bought a deadly diamond backed viper and I'm keeping it in my cartridge bag so KEEP OUT :( :( :(

I did indeed used to shoot the Comp X 21g - cracking carts as well IMO

I'd probably still be shooting them if i hadn't discovered Little Devils

Where the heck do you get those little devils round Manchester. Had good reports from chaps in the NE but he makes them there doesnt he. Am dying to trythem!
