Swapping shotgun barrels?

quick question, not sure if this has been asked before (bit groggy today) but didnt find it on the search function. my friend and i both have mossberg 500's, his is the slugster model with shortish barrel and rifle type sights on it (nb called slugster but NOT a rifled barrel), mine are a 500a and a 600at, both with top rib, dual bead, multichoke, etc.

 

now my question is can we legally swap barrels between our guns without having to do a load of paper work? ie, i give him a 500a barrel and he gives me the slugster barrel. theres no serial numbers on the barrels as far as i can see, and both being mossberg 500's the barrels are interchangeable.

 

any thoughts?

if there is no serial number on either barrels then i cant see it being a problem

even if there is a serial number you can as they don't record the barrel numbers just the action ones. I know this as a local gunshop sold me an auto years ago and entered the barrel number on my ticket by mistake, I've had 3 renewals since FEO has spotted it on every one and been meaning to change it on their system and hasn't managed it so far
