silver pigeon 3
Hi Dan Just to clarify if we were intersested could we book individual places or do we have to book in a team of 10, sorry if its repeating what you said in the post. thanks
al4x
As the demand for this type of shoot is high and at this amazingly low price, we have decided to offer it to the ‘Pigeon Watch’ guys first. 3 minutes before offering it on the stalking directory its not bad value but still £27 a bird for a walk one shoot one so normal rates
richg
On Guns on Pegs, a renowned shoot in Lincolnshire is offering 100 bird driven days for under £19 per bird including a meal afterwards. GOOD VALUE OR WHAT!!! Birds on walk and stand days should surely be cheaper than driven birds, because No beaters to pay. No pickers up to pay. No meal to provide. dan the gun
3 minutes before offering it on the stalking directory its not bad value but still £27 a bird for a walk one shoot one so normal rates £27... i make it £22.50 for the 60 birds and i have to say it will be closer to the 60 than the 50. oh yeah and thats INCLUDING THE VAT NEXT... GOOD VALUE OR WHAT!!! Birds on walk and stand days should surely be cheaper than driven birds, because No beaters to pay. No pickers up to pay. No meal to provide. £19 per bird... thats without including VAT so including it would be about the same price! If you want to go down the route of 'guns on pegs' I'm sure you won't get a deal like this for a 50-60 bird day. Try £160 per gun with 12 guns shooting a 40-50 bag I make that £1,920; thats close to £600 more oh and not to add thats 12 guns, 2 more than us. So at that price, not forgetting you will be shooting less birds it would be £192 per gun based on a team of 10. Where there are a 100+ birds per day, the birds will be cheaper as you can recouperate a greater sum.... you will also find that many of the 100+ days charge over £27 per bird + VAT I make that £31.72 inc VAT. So at that price for a 50-60 bird day (saying you shoot 60) is is just over £1,903 and i make that over £553 more than we offer. If you can find a day that we offer at the same price, cheapr or £200 more then let me know as we would be very interested. regards Dan Edited July 13, 2010 by dan the gun

Gillaroo
Hi Dan Not wishing to hijack your thread but it did get me thinking about looking into good value days like yours. Just found this if anyone is interested... "We are able to offer formal driven days for full or part teams of 8-10 guns with an anticipated bag of 70-100 head of mixed Ducks, Woodcock and Pheasants. Our ducks are reared to be "wild" and driven from high ground ponds to challenge the very best shots. Food, drinks, transport and a good atmosphere are provided with our own syndicate guns standing down to act as beaters and helpers throughout the day. Price based on 8 guns is £250 per gun or based on 10 guns cost is £200 per gun." Too far from me for a day out but happy to PM details if anyone is interested. Cheers Mike PS In the current economic climate maybe we should start a new thread for "Good value shooting 2010/11." al4x
there was a good piece in the Shooting times about costs and profit made on shoots, run well there is plenty to be made but badly and you loose severely! One minor point to bear in mind is you really want to try and get your own team together believe me you need to know people aren't greedy on this kind of day as 50 birds is nothing. I had a particularly bad experience in Devon on a 180 bird day where one guy shot 40 mediocre birds on the first drive. I very nearly went home there and then  it does happen all too often and really ruins your day, we did three drives and by 11am had nearly shot the bag. It's very difficult to get 8 or 10 like minded people who will only shoot the challenging birds. Same as Alex we had a greedy sod with us 2 seasons ago, he hasn't been asked back since.
