Pigeons on Wheat

This time of year the barley is too hard and the woodies favour the softer less ripened wheat! I noticed a standing wheat field nearby my home starting to show promising signs of producing a good bag! After our recent downpour i went back expecting to find the wheat laid but to my surprise it had been partially cut and the pigeons where swarming on it. I can only assume it's been cut early for livestock feed and due to only half the field being cut it's easy pickings for the pigeons. I'm going this Sunday with high expectations but i don't like getting too optimistic because pigeons can turn off like a light switch! Wish me luck and i hope to upload any pictures if i produce a bag! :)

Don't worry about gas guns we shot 214 on thursday and another 50 friday untill we drowned out , there were 2 gas guns going off all the time never stopped them at all. Hope you all have a good day.

They've been hammering the standing wheat on our shoot for about three weeks. Today - Zilch! Not a bird seen to drop into it from 10am to 6pm. I've been riding round the shoot all day trying to find them. Hope they're back tomorrow.

Like i said they turn off like a light switch sometimes! :good:

I'm in Preston working at the moment. Give us a shout if you need a hand

I would've done mate, could've done with an extra gun to keep them moving! Just got back though, rained off! Absolutely chucking it down! :good:

I'm used to manchesters rain mate. Constant and light. It just bombs it down for an hour in Preston

I know but it's been raining steady today apart from the past few hours but rather than setting up late we've decided to leave the kit in the car and go early tomorrow! :good:

Where I shoot the pigeons have deserted standing wheat. Up to last week there were hundreds at all hours on one heat field, yesterday and today - nothing. A few are dropping into barley wheelings and a few are on the swaffed rape, but the bulk have gone elsewhere.

I went around the fields on Saturday morning and found literally hundreds of pigeons feeding in the standing wheat and barley so i went back today with a car full of gear to find absolutely nothing! I didn't bother setting up because of the lack of activity and then the heavens opened!
