Went to visit a friend's farm yesterday

Recommended Posts

Went to visit a friend's farm yesterday and he rents some of his land to some pheasant/partridge breeders - was quite a sight to behold.

200,000 birds at it's peak (obviously a lot have gone now).

and they had some white pheasants...

i asked that, and no, they've only had a couple - it's a heavily policed area though with plenty of shooters all round - the guys live onsite for the rearing period and have plenty of good dogs.

my mate can see all his 'personal' pens from his bedroom window, so foxes don't last long (and he's an amazing shot).

On our shoot we let our good friend Nick have a field as he has recently sold his place, he also rears birds and I must say he makes a packet, but this time of year he is up every 3 hours, even in the middle of the night checking on the pens, he lives in a caravan on the field away from his family. Makes you think about the effort that goes into the pre season rearing!!!
