Blaser F3 - Mk1 or Mk2 ?

I am considering buying a new Blaser F3 Super Luxus which whilst new and unused is almost three years old!

I have heard so many complaints regarding the original mark 1 which have been resolved in the mark 2. My question is - when did the mark 1 become mark 2 and apart from the new style of fore-end (not always the case), what distiguishes the different marks?

Is there a point in the serial numbering when a mark 2 can be readily identified?

Many thanks

I've gone and bought it!

Lovely lovely!

But wait a minute!

It seems that Blaser in Germany don’t understand the questions put to them concerning the so called MK1 and MK2 versions of the F3. Their view is that there is no difference in early and late models of the F3 !

According to Jason Harris of the Sporting Gun publication, the F3 was modified during 2007/2008 at the behest of Alan Rhone which included several important mechanical “fixes” and a few stock, fore end and barrel alterations which gave rise to the “new” F3 Professional. The give-away seems to be that the fore end is now a London style as opposed to the Schnabel style.

Now the problem here is – do these alterations apply to ALL F3 models i.e the Luxus and Super Luxus?

Somehow I don’t thinks so as it seems that a late 2007 Super Luxus model new, and straight out of the box last week has all of the ‘old’ features and apparent problems.

1. For instance the trigger pull is light and inconsistent when firing lower and upper chambers.

2. The top lever is stiff (much more than you would expect from a new gun).

3. When the gun has fired a few rounds and the action/barrels have warmed up, the barrel to action fit seems to grind heavily but this disappears when cooled down.

4. The fore end is the Schnabel style not London style.

What is not clear is if Alan Rhone modified all guns from a certain point to ensure that the problems published were rectified prior to the customer receiving their new gun. Blaser don’t seem to carry any record of modification and as we all know Alan Rhone is no longer the Blaser Uk dealer.

Bit of a paradox here don’t you think?

If my ‘brand new’ gun (albeit made in 2007) is actually a MK1 old stock and problematic one, then I’m not going to be too happy as you would expect!

If Blaser don’t know and Alan Rhone is no longer involved - does anyone know when the old Mk1 ceased to be, and the new MK2 took over and if all guns made from 2006 onward are indeed MK2 then I would be grateful for their advice.

Many thanks

If you look in the catalogue all Luxes have the Schnabel fore end.

Did the Mk2 not have the serial number stamped on the receiver not the barrels?

Mine is a "Mk2" it has the darker colour to the action and has the serial number under the top lever.

It also has a schnabel forend.

The new distributor is Open Season, but they do not answer the telephone or respond to e mails. A complete shower of shiite if you ask me.

I have a MK1 (S/N on the barrels) and it has exhibited non of the above issues. I bought it as an ex demo so it is possible it had the issues sorted out before I bought it.

I have to say that everyone I have met who has one has had nothing but praise for the gun and it gets quite a lot of attention & inquiries wherever I take it.

I have put about 3k mixed game & clay cartridges through it and so far, touch wood I have had no issues and I love it to bits.

Yeh ... I think i'm being a bit over critical and need to give the gun a chance to settle down after a few hundred shells. I still love it and the Super Luxus is such a pretty gun.

My gun has the serial number under the top lever and a different one on the barrels. Blaser say that as the gun is modular, the barrel serial numbers can differ from the action.

I remember the dealer saying there should be a number on both the barrels & action and they might differ as the gun was modular. He also said they would both need to be put on my SGC. When we looked we could only find a number on the barrels!! (No, its not under the top lever!!)
