Managed to get out shooting Thursday, Friday Sat and Sunday this weekend.

Thursday was lamping, went down at 10pm drove around a couple of the fields and saw nothing, then came across the first one and the light died, fuse blown and male connector melted. After changing fuses etc we packed it in and went home very disappointed. :good:

Working Friday morning so after a quick change it was into the Landrover and up to the garage, he sorted the electrics and ordered a new system to use the lamps. Down to the farm and set up by 2.30 pm

Now the farmer has only cut around the edge of this rape to about 50 foot the rest is all still standing in the middle, anyway the wind was being a pain in the ariss we set up with the wind coming lt to right but it soon shifted so it was coming towards us, so out and move the pattern around and the magnet and bouncers.

At 7.00pm we packed up with 17.bit disappointing as I had been waiting weeks for this rape to be cut. :hmm::no:

Sat saw us on a different field I went to what I thought would be a good spot under a big Oak tree, my partner in crime went across the road into a field that had been completely cut. I sit and wait perfect hide, magnet decoys bouncers the lot.:lol: I have to sit there and listen to him banging away and watching the pigeons fly around but not come near me, I took the magnet down tried different speeds, moved the decoys around, put more twigs in the hide netting, but nothing altered things. Eventually gave up and went across the road, we put an extension on his hide and had a great afternoon, managed 50 in total. Now I have no idea why they came to this field and not mine as we were only 500 yds apart. And the hide was falling down around us, no magnet and no bouncers.

The way the wind was meant that they circled overhead went behind the hedge then hopped over about ten feet to our left. It was brilliant snap shooting as you saw them come around then disappear behind the hedge. They would then appear about five feet above the hedge and ten feet away requiring a real snap shot and if you were really quick you could drop the pigeon in the hide.

Had one that was way up in the sky, saw the decoys and just folded his wings like a hawk and screamed down to us, we were mesmerized by it and only just remembered to shoot it. As it flared a few feet above the ground.

Finished at 8 pm packed away, had a brew and a fry up as we waited for darkness :oops: . First opportunity to lamp theses fields for 4 months off we went

Saw a fox but to far out for the .17 called etc but he was gone into the rape in the middle of the field probably to dine on the ones that we had dropped and been unable to collect. Very difficult to see the rabbits due to the length of the stalk left after cutting the rape and we only managed a few so packed up at midnight

Sunday saw us back on the rape but it was a slow day and ended up with 18. crops were full of cereal so they were feeding somewhere else. But some quality shots, a good lunch and some fine banter. What more could you ask for a weekend ;):oops:
