Frank
Good man sussex lad & Axe. What did you shoot them with mate?
sussex lad
We had them with - My .22 ( now get ready for all the .22 not up to the job comments) Both were taken under 50 yards off bipods with winnie subs in the head and both dropped deader than a dead thing dropping. I've had 80% of my foxes this way purely because the .22 what comes out to play most . And that most of the foxes my way havent been lamped or called , so come trotting in on demand
chewyjack.22
Great foxes, i was told by my feo that .22 is more than upto the job (within range), and told me to use .22 cci stingers with a muzzle energy of 191 ft lbs, surely thats enough
Frank
Fair play to you mate. Keep up the good work. I too do this from time to time, in areas where the foxes have not been educated. Keep within 50 yds. Edited December 31, 2005 by Frank

william
Good shooting lads - winchester subs are well up to the job when head shooting not matter what any feo tells you the proof is in the way you hit the bullet smack in its head and the fox rolls to one side. I had a converstation with one feo from west mids area he basically said the same as we do 50 yd head shot, there concern is bazzle being injured which is fair enough as i'm sure that we are all aware of. Any further they get a .243 off me. Well done again lads. Terry

(gwent police) I talk to Laurence Whyton and he is knowledgeable chap and the minimum he was happy for a fox was the HMR BUT only in close quarters hence he let me have a centrefire on my first application. trevor
i used to shoot foxes with a 22 i used to go for a heart shot but they allways moved about 15 steps from where you shot them so the morel of the story is try to head shot them and dont take the lamp or your eyes of the fox or they might get under a headge where you cant see them. [ps] or just get a 22-250 and blow them to bits so they cant walk away.
rogo
[ps] or just get a 22-250 and blow them to bits so they cant walk away. A valid point too!. He was also aware of "overkill" too and advised me on what I needed to do the job for the land I had.

trevor
not as dramatic as one with a 22 stuck in it guts dieing a slow death the problem is unless you can be sure its going to die dont shoot it and with a rim fire the only place is in the head with a 22-250 with the right ammo if you hit them anywhere in the body there dead or unable to go any where. The Big Red Fox
not as dramatic as one with a 22 stuck in it guts dieing a slow death the problem is unless you can be sure its going to die dont shoot it and with a rim fire the only place is in the head with a 22-250 with the right ammo if you hit them anywhere in the body there dead or unable to go any where. Well Trevor Explain to us all what would be worse, a .22 rimfire in the gut dying a slow death or like you say hit with a .22-250 anywhere on the body and unable to go anywhere........in otherwords dying a slow death, until you manage to get to it and finish it off. If you are going to shoot foxes make sure the rifle is up to the job and that the zero is correct and you are confident with the rifle, and only then take a placed shot and do the job correctly...... C'mon guys vermin or not there is nothing worse than a wriggling in agony fox. This seems to have gone off the topic though. All the best
