VicW
The most common markings are stars or dots at the breech end. **** = 1/4: *** = 1/2: ** = 3/4: * = Full The most accurate way is with a bore measuring dial guage which any decent gunshop should have. The choke guages that you put in the muzzle are a rough guide and must be the right type for the gun being measured. It's no use using a standard bored guage in a back bored gun. Vic. clayman
While chokes or barrels may have nominal markings on them in stars, notches or the US system of naming them, the only way to truly gauge the choke a gun has is to pattern plate it and count the pellets in the 30" circle. Manufacturing tolerances, gun wear, pellet size, lead alloy hardness, pellet plating, and cartridge type/brand can all effect the pellet distribution - so if you really want to learn about your guns capabilities, get out and pattern it with your preferred load on a plate with each choke you have. This is a truly informative exersize, and well worth doing. Edited August 8, 2010 by clayman
Dekers
The web will provide you with all the answers, they are usually marked as notches or stars as already said...but not all manufacturers are the same size whatever they seem to suggest! KPV4
Cheers guys, It is a fixed choke gun so I'm quite sure it is full and full, there appears to be one star on each barrel
