HDAV
Following a article in this months Tackle & Guns - September 10 By Colin Greenwood Seems the Goverment is discussing upping Shotgun to Section 1 - to tighten up their ownship Citing to the recent Murder sprees where Shotguns was used BOB/R SO basically getting rid of SGC and making everyone go FAC? so apart from then needing good reason and an extra referee how would this help? Also Derek Bird Held an FAC so what benefit would it be? Raoul Moat used an illegally held weapon again what benefit would there be? Apart from amking 600,000 SGC holder apply for an FAC which would overload every FLO in the country causing huge back logs......
David BASC
Let’s take a deep breath and calm down a moment. The HASC have not decided what they are going to recommend yet, and this ‘suggestion’ of all shotguns going onto Sec 1 had, as Colin says, been around for ages, it wont go away I suspect being realistic. However, as I say, the HASC have not decided yet what recommendations they are going to put to parliament, and even then there is no guarantee that parliament will take all the recommendations on board. This is why BASC has been saying for ages that it is important that ALL shooters lobby on this issue – see this link http://www.basc.org.uk/en/media/key_issues...1CB8AD35CDCE31A We have until the 27th August to do this – so get responding!! BlaserF3
What about shooters who do not have use of the internet? I bet there's an awful lot who don't, especially the older generation.
Breastman
What about shooters who do not have use of the internet? I bet there's an awful lot who don't, especially the older generation. Get them to write it out then give to someone who has computer access to type up and send for them, thats not an excuse!! I've done two for codgers at my strawbaler Shotguns's onto FAC's - problems; 1/ With an FAC you need strong justification to own more than one gun of the same calibre (bore). If someone does game shooting, pest control and one or more clay discipline they'd need a minimum of 2 guns to work effectively but you could need 6+, how's that going to work!? 2/ The people suggesting this seem to think that all FAC's have geographical restrictions, i.e. theres a single piece of named land/club in the extra conditions. As WE know the majority of people who have FAC guns for things other than target shooting have open certificates with no named land, therefore making it a pointless excercise. 3/ If shotguns were added to FAC's virtually every single field in the UK would need to be checked by FEO's for certificate holders who don't have open tickets. 4/ Anti-gun tools think you can buy as many guns as you like with an SGC with no control. They mustn't realise you have to inform the police with every purchase and be able to store them securely. Grrr, tough times ahead! masterzone
Interesting point breast man however surely the point of the S.G.C is to keep people with shotguns to a maximum of 3 shots per gun at anyone time to make them F.A.C would mean (with our system) people will ask for shotgun on their F.A.C for clays as an example but it will mean they can get a hi-cap shotgun oppose to the 2/3 shot. One thing that does puzzle me is that I have both F.A.C and S.G.C The S.G.C was just given to me as I had the F.A.C in the 1st place (was not told about the thing where you can get them cheaper by getting them both at the same time) Why did they not just make it so if/when you got an F.A.C you could get a shotgun (S.G.C shotgun) with your F.A.C you would still have to tell the firearms unit you have it- and it seams pointless to be allowed say a .22 self-loading firearm with 300 .22 rounds no magazine limits etc but couldn't get a shotgun with out the S.G.C Even Joe public can not see what the deal is- its abit like being able to drive a class 1 HGV but not being allowed to drive a 1000cc mini.
