i am toying with the idea of building a garden pond about 2m x 2m x 2/3 foot which will be raised up not dug down

I know a few people on here have one so looking for advice on the costs involved with setting it up and running it. Will be having carp in it

Cheers

One way would be to make the sides out of railway sleepers and put a pond liner in it. I used to keep carp and the ideal depth should be 5 foot but I have seen carp in ponds only 3 feet and they have been ok. If you are raising it 3 feet up off the ground then it must be a strong supporting wall around it, 2 bricks/blocks thick with the cavity filled with concrete would be the best way, a wall one brick thick wouldn't last that long holding the wieght of that amount of water.

Could you not dig down a couple of feet and then raise the pond 2 feet as well, then you would have a 4 foot deep pond and the wall wouldn't need to be so strong and expensive to hold back only 2 feet of water above the ground.

Another thing to consider before building it is filteration, where is the filter going to go and what type of filter are you going to be using, if its a gravity fed filter then the top of the filter needs to be the same height as the water level in the pond, you could plan a place to put the filter in the the design of your pond or run pipe work in to put the filter out of the way in the garage/shed or at the other end of your garden.
