dunganick
I've not really shot many foxes this year, as i haven't had the time or trusted the Howa when i have gone out (so let the others shoot the centerfires, while i missed with the rimfire instead) But i had an invite from my old man to join him and a friend in sitting out for some foxes on one of our piece of land. As it was the first decent day for weeks i headed out. I chose to go the other side of the farm to my Dad and friend, sitting in a field looking into the sun (unfortunately). When i turned up i got a phonecall from a friend, being ever the professional i carried on with the call as i setup my seat and stick. While chatting on the phone i couldnt see anything (it was about 2hrs before dark, so i wasnt surprised) although i did notice a red bucket in the Horse field opposite which was in an odd place. Maybe 20 mins went past before i got off the phone, Once i did i settled down and had a quick scan around the field, finally deciding to check out the bucket.... by bucket i mean fox. Asleep next to a wood maybe 250 yards away (not on my land). A quick squeak had it up awake, looking at me, a few more had it wander into my field, it turned and stood broadside just my side of the fence which was just lovely and she went down without so much as a twitch. Fox 2 was spotted making his way across the woods infront of me, it got about 100 yards across the woodline before i noticed it (the setting sun in my eyes and field being turned in made it hard to spot things). Again about 150 yards, this time a little cub. Which means the Howa hasnt missed a fox this year (its only shot 4 or 5 mind), i'm almost starting to trust it. Pic of the field. The Bucket fox was spotted next to the wood on the r/h side and came down to the fenceline running horrizontal at 3 O'clock. The other fox was making its way across the wood infront. Foxy 1 Foxy 2 (excuse rubbish pic) Anyway, lesson learnt, i will check red buckets from now on
