Colster
Was in my local gunshop this morning stocking up for some pigeon punching tomorrow when I spied this: http://www.remington.com/products/firearms.../model-770.aspx in .243 Not sure what the scope was (Bushnell Non-IR 3-9x40) but for £450 I'd be happy enough to change it but it looked to my untrained eye like a dovetail rail with fairly simple looking single screw mounts. Are these up to the job or a bit of a gimmick that I'll end up spending £150 or so replacing? Any thoughts generally on the 770, would be mainly used for Deer and occasional fox. Paddy Galore!
friend of mine bought one of these, bit cheap and nasty looking, had trouble grouping heavier loads also.
Rem223
They are complete and utter garbage. Avoid like the plague. If you want a cheap gun get a Savage. They are far better made and more accurate.
Graham M
These particular rifles are aimed at the American ****-wit market and only cost @ three hundred dollars over there. Basically they are for the eejit who hasn’t a clue about shooting or hunting, but because they are free to buy them without any form of licensing and without any knowledge whatsoever about hunting, then they are basically a throw-away jobbie. A complete fool could take one out and lose it over a cliff or in a river or lake, without incurring any bother from the police (can you imagine that over here) and then simply buy a new one the next week to replace it………which is why they are so cheap. I shudder to think about what the future holds for us in this country when we will soon only be able to buy this sort of rifle (at a stupidly inflated price) because no-one will make anything better. The yanks will pay $300 for one………..and we will be shafted for £800 for the same piece of junk……and be told how great they are as well. As I say they cost @ $300 over there, which is @ £200, but they suddenly become nearly £500 when they get here. If you are going to pay £500 then why not add another £75 and get a Howa. G.M. Colster
OK guys point taken, need to save more pennies then. Expensive lark this deer shooting innit, so ideally I'm looking around £500 for a rifle, £200-300 for glass, £100 for rings and bases then £200ish for a mod and that's as a conservative estimate to buy in at a reasonable mid range? So keep saving till I have a grand and then go shopping?
