RossM
For an FAC you must have seperate safe/cabinet for the ammunition. Does the ammunition safe have to be to BS5778 like the cabinets or can it be a similar standard safe. I was thinking the digital fire proof ones you can get but have seem similar with a key lock that is similar locking style to those posh Brattonsound cabinets and it was a damn sight cheaper. £35 as opposed to £60 for a cheap BS5778 Standard Ammunition Cabinet. flash
my dad uses a .50 ammo box with a bike chain wrapped around and pad locked and the FAC officer said it was fine that costs even less from the surplus store. flash
Down South
I use a digital safe from Ar**s, about £25. Does the job.
Gemini
I bought a digital safe from Makro for £16. bloody great little safe but can’t hold enough ammo’ so I have to use two of them. Still a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a pukka gun safe though. G.M.
RossM
I take it these safes still have to be bolted to the wall???
Gemini
Yup
RossM
Thats ok. excellent. I might not need to buy an expensive top locker cabinet then. I could make do with my breakdown cabinet already in place for SGC until I move when I can get a full height 4 gun cabinet.
RossM
It wasnt me that mentioned the argos one but i have seen similar with holes and fixing kits to bolt to the floor. If I get one i think i'll have to drill holes in the back so it can be fixed to a solid wall in a cupboard.
Gemini
I would imagine that they would have to have holes in them for fixing. It would hardly be worth having a safe that you could just pick up and walk off with would it.. G.M.
Sargeant Bang
I bought a Big one that takes about 6-8 guns and it has a top locking cupboard inside it. Cost me £140 I think but I got £80 odd for my old shotgun safe so not so bad. I can forsee a time when the ammo cupboard may get too small though, if not the gun cab itself.
