big bad lindz
Hi, I am loking for chokes that will fit my Franchi Harrier to use with steel shot, can anyone help with a suggestion of types of chokes. This is for wildfowling on the foreshore. I normally use my Escort semi for foreshore shooting but it has gone sick and has been sent away for a repair & service. The chokes that were supplied with the Franchi for use with steel shot are Imp.Mod & Full, although this may be ok for clays I am not so sure for the Geese & Duck. the loads I have been using are 32g & 36g No3 and although I have used them with a little success I am missing more and some not to clean kills. Thanks in advance BBL
fortune82
You can not use anything more than half choke. I used to use Skeet chokes as steel patterns very tight due to very little pellet deformation. With 32 gram no.4 RC steel cartridges I used to be able to kill Mallard reliably at 40 yards. Now I have a sxs and have to use bismuth  At £1 a shot!
Scully
Unless your Harrier is proofed for steel, which I don't believe they were,I wouldn't go any tighter than 1/2 as Fortune 82 has advised.I've had impressive results on Mallard and Greylags with Gamebore Supersteel 32gm 4's. big bad lindz
Thanks guys, The gun came with chokes for steel and the hand book says steel can be used. I have looked at the various stampings on the barrels a few numbers and LF in an oval also what looks like a jesters hat and BZ in a small square the other stampings I cant make out. As I said I am looking for a 1/2 or 1/4 chokes rated for steel that will fit my Franchi. I have contacted GMK but no reply yet. BBL PS just had a look at the good old www and found out that the jester hat is the steel shoot proof stamp Edited September 18, 2010 by big bad lindz

JonD
Briley do them. Give Chris Potter Country Sports a call, they are the UK agent for Briley. As above, don't go tighter than 1\2. Jon.
Guest cookoff013
well, actually some chokes are made of a super hard steel alloy, and are rated for steel shot, even the 3/4 and full constrictions. dont paint everything with the same brush. new products come out all the time. i`m thinking of picking up a 3/4 super steel choke for small shotsizes.
