Wildfowling from a Boat

Hi

I was just wondering how many of you actually had the facility to use a small boat while wildfowling.

The waters down my way are a little dangerous for me to go out in a small boat, but i have always liked the idea of being out in a small boat, going along the rushes and having a few shots at some ducks.

Not even sure where in the UK i could give this ago, but something i would like to try at some point.

Cheers

In Poole most people shoot from a boat of some kind most people use small shoulder gunning punts the reason is that we have very little acsses across the land to the forshore.

Is this the little bit by the road near where they build sunseekers? the roundabout with the ancher and boats on the middle of it? there always seems to be ducks and geese about there when we go down (summer holidays)

You can take out a day ticket on Rockland broad, this includes hire of one of the club boats. Only tried it once myself and had a great day, we put a squad of decoys out and pushed the boat back into the reeds.

Would that be the Rockland wildfowling club, as we have thought about joining that club next year, as my mate as a punt

You have to use one of the clubs own boats on Rockland Broad. Its a great place to shoot , but do not expect a big bag. Its more about wildfowling atmosphere and a different sort of wildfowling few of us ever experiance - shooting a large lake inland from a boat. To watch the sun rise over the reedbeds and duck and geese flighting across the surrounding marshes is shere magic. I was there friday morning with another club member. We had the whole Broad to ourselves. Saw a few duck and geese and even though we only had one mallard in the bag between us it was by far the best morning flight of the year. Birds in the bag are not everything.

When I went it was during a real cold spell late season, my host reckoned there may be a few others planning to go out so we took the boat out at about 4am to try and bag one of the better spots! Broke the ice as we rowed across the broad to Slaughters, put the decoys out and a arranged the boat before settling back for three hours of listening to the sounds of the broad before the first grey light of the morning, fantastic! Shot a few ducks aswell. One of my most memorable days 'fowling.
