MY OTHER LAMB CALL.

As i said in my other post, got called on another lamb call which i went to last night.

These foxes were taking the lambs under the farmers nose moreless, very cheaky.

I set up on top of a feild lookind down into a valley and waited. Gave it 10 mins, then scaned with the lamp. A pair of eyes about 300 odd yds away looked back at me. Turned of lamp and used the back of my hand to make a bunny in distress noise. Did this for a few mins, then switched lamp back on, 2 foxes were coming towards me like collies being called in for their dinner

They got within 80 yds and stoped when they heard me load the rifle :D , Ka-Boom, wack, first one down, the other ran like a hare, i desprately shouted 'HEY'!!

It stopped for a 1/4 second, i took a hurried shot, the fox lept, stumbled, ran 40yds and collapsed dead. Nice one i thought. Stayed calling for another 15 mins, nothing showed, so i left, the farmer was delighted and gave me a big Bottle of Jameson Whisky and some dosh for ammo.

Pic below.

Thanks all. This is what seems to be happening, the farmers are talking and spreading the word. Im finding it a wee bit hard at the moment keeping everything going with all this happening, what with work, wife, child, Computer  , ect, finding time for anything else at present is hard. :D:lol: .

very nice mate. your really getting ontop of the foxes this year.

150+ on the books this year?

Thanks Nick. Dont know if i will reach 150+, but the way things are going, you never know. :D

As i have said, this is a poor year for me, if i had the numbers that i was culling the last 2 seasons before, i would not have time to type this.

Weather, family, work have got in the way a bit more this year.

Thank God that Weather, family, work have got in the way or there would not be a fox left for the rest of us the way you are dropping them.

Well done lad :D

great shooting, had and odd occurance this morning, i shot a fox running away from the chicken coup, it was still dark, and i used the n/v scope, it was trotting aways across the field, i took aim and fired, the round took it in the head but the fox carried on running for about 10-15 metter then slumped dead, was this just momentum, or what?? well wierd, when i checked the carcass half its head was missing so i know were it hit!

Seven nights a week if i am left Frank :D

Use a Sako hornet with Hornady 35 GR V-MAX and always have the shotgun with us as well for the ones that come right close.

Shot a good few foxes with the shotgun at night recently.

We shoot out of a modified cattle box that we added a second floor on to which puts us about 10 feet up in the air on the lands we have permission on and have a transit van with a hole cut out in the roof for driving along roads for checking out were there might be foxes where we dont want to alert the whole world as to what we are doing as the trailer is a bit noisy on the bad roads we have around here.

That sounds an effeciant set up, bet you are right on the fox as soon as you see him.

Sako Hornet, thats a great rifle, rare as hens teeth im told, id say its an accurate one, as most of them are. Pitty they dont make them anymore.

Any chance of some pics of rifle and set up?

got fed up so bought our #2 choice, a brno (cant remember the model)

lovely little rifle. accurate gun with the 35grainers as well.

My father brought the gun back from the states years ago.

Only rifle i am comfortable shooting with.

Will post some pics as soon as i replace my dig camera as i lost it one day while out ferreting and have not replaced it yet.

The trailer is deadly you can see everything around u on both sides. We operate with two lampers and one shooter and there has been many times we shot a double when there is a fox trying to come up behind us when calling a fox out in front of us and would not have seen the second fox only for being up in the trailer.

Had a few close shaves with losing the mag from the rifle as it would be a disaster if it was lost as it could not be replaced but sorted out that problem by tying the mag up with fishing gut and tying it off the trigger gaurd so it cant go anywhere and we could never forget to bring it as it is always on the gun

I know what you are saying.

Plenty of people offer to shoot the foxes for the farmers but only a few show results.

Keep up the good work
