kyska
Hi All, I'm reinvesting in a HMR, sold my last one and now regret it! I've been offered a nice one, which has had the barrel shortened (factory done, screwcut and all that) to 16" Will this affect the gun in anyway? Colster
Nope, just be easier to get in and out of a vehicle window. I have a 16" LR and 20" HMR, much as I love my hummer, for lamping the LR is more likely to get an outing. Kinda wish I'd bought the shorter HMR but I was on a budget and they wanted another £50 for the 16" The only downside I could see is that I like to store my HMR with the mod off, at 16" it would be too short to stand up properly in my cabinet. Frenchieboy
Kyska my friend I have recently had my CZ452 Varmint (Heavy Barrel) in 17HMR cut down, re-crowned and re-threaded from a 20 inch barrel to a 16 inch barrel. The work was done by David Mercer from DM80 Moderators and it has made a world of difference to the rifle. The rifle feels a little lighter to carry and is much better balanced, it is a little easier to manouver if you are shooting from a motor and it has improved the accuracy. The difference is only minimal as my rifle was extremely accurate before the work was done but after re-zeroing it and getting used to it I can safely say that the rifle is definitely a little more accurate than before! Obviously the best advice that can be given to you is - "If possible ask if you can try the rifle and check the grouping of it" as no two rifles will be identical. I hope that this helps a little mate!
kyska
Thanks all, I'm going to have a look later. Its from a dealer I use a lot and trust. Its timber, blued with scope and swivels, he'll let me have it for £275. Its in good nick, but don't know how old it is, what do we think? al4x
seems a decent deal, as for use they don't tend to wear much so I'd buy on condition rather than anything else.
Frenchieboy
seems a decent deal, as for use they don't tend to wear much so I'd buy on condition rather than anything else. I will second that. It all depends on general condition, but as long as it is in quite reasonable condition then the price seems fairly reasonable, particularly if it is a reasonable scope on it! You could always try to haggle and get a moderator thrown in for that price if you were feeling a bit cheeky!
