Catamong
Lead is poisonous - birds can ingest it when feeding and it can kill them, if they eat enough of it. Cat.

Devilishdave
No good reason for it but the justification is outlined above. In england you cant shoot a goose or duck any whare with lead. In scotland you can shoot them with lead as long as the lead is not going to enter the water course. Dave

coupe312
Basically lead in water is not a problem cause it won't leave it solid for and turn into lead ions. the only direct problem come from ingestion by animal and fish life. this is where lead is a problem as many wildfoul root for food at the bottom of water cause or in the reeds. lead in a an aerobic condition or acid will easiel break down into lead ion in water which then can be absorbed by aquatic life hence entering the food chain. bindi
Thing is tho you cant shoot a duck/goose with lead even if you are 100miles from any lake, pond, wash etc but you can shoot pheasants etc over water with lead And many do!! so perhaps its not so straight forward after all. I suppose lead is just generaly toxic, and whilst steel probably isn't good for the digestion, it probably doesn't kill them, unless of course they are hit by it, as opposed to eating it.
