yickdaz
just wundering what everyone thinks about the number of young pigeons around this year.. we have been shooting a hell of a lot of young birds so much so that they are making a good portion of the bags we have been shooting since july; up to now; but the last 2 months especially about 80% of the bags have been young birds i can;t recall seeing and shooting as many as this year whats everyones views on this. proTOM1
I have to say i think its been a very good year for young birds , the bags that myself and my clients have been shooting have of late been over 80% young apart from in 1 area where there seems to be very few young about at the moment . Bags there have been 95% adult still a few young birds but know where near the numbers being shot in other places . It can only be a good sign

yickdaz
yes must be flocking up now was on a farm yesterday and there was two in the same field lol atb dolphin i know your joking mate; you don;t get big numbers generally when the land is mainly pasture;you will get the odd bag or 2 on grass when they are feeding on clover we shoot a farm that only grows grass for the cattle and every year without fail we get a couple of days on them last june we had 2 bags of 22 and 34; but the main bulk of our shooting comes from the arable farm land in our area;and that goes for most of the country;and i also know you get a lot of crows up in cumbria to compensate for lack of pigeons

Batch
Bags of late down this way, when you manage to find them have been mostly made up of young birds......which in a way is a bit of a touch as it means I can use the magnet again, whihc they have been falling for!! Older birds are def more wary of the magnet down this way of the world
ironhorse
It’s been an absolute waste of time going out for a days shooting here, pigeon numbers old or young are really down, my last two outings I didn’t even fire a shot, I’ve never known it so devoid of pigeons on my ground. Darren h
Similar to above posts, plenty of the young birds around generally but total numbers are certainly down right now
nobby63
Same here lots of young birds, most from last week were heavy in moult the only problem is to get afew more shooters out to keep them moving and might get a good days shoot.
