inthedark
I'd be interested in informed opinion on how many game birds your average charlie kills over the course of a shooting season, say, 01/09 - 31/01 so discounting release pen massacres, hen birds taken off nests and such. Just one fox, free to do what it likes on an average density shoot.
jonevo
If I knew the answer to this, I suppose I would be a millionaire and know the lottery numbers lol :0 any way mate good luck in your quest. I would say, depending on several factors, the size of the shoot, no vermin control , terrain, enviroment,etc... but taking into account all that, a loss of 25 - 30%,would be acheived, if it was left to do what a fox does best. inthedark
I know what you mean mate. If they only take two birds a week that still makes them worth a £1,000 a pop.

Actually 2 Birds a Week at 52 Weeks = 104 Birds at £20 a bird = £2k.... Okay, I know we only put our birds down in August and finish in Jan = 6 months, but the other six months the wild Pheasant and Partridge are still getting hit. bignoel
i watched one morning early a young fox with some poults on a hedge row just down from the release pen for over 20 mins he was haveing the time of his life running around knocking them off one after another now i dont know how long he was there before i spotted him and i dont know how much longer he stayed after i left him but he had made a fair mess of the poults and it was in fun as he jumped ran skidded about chaseing them they just didnt seem to know what was going on the innocent poults .i didnt have a clue who was the keeper or where he lived to inform him but i am sure he found out when he did his rounds that morning . i couldnt estimate how many he killed or maimed that morning as i was well away from him to see proberly . al4x
thats weird most poults are well and truly able to fly now, one or two would be understandable more and its a bit strange
