Mr Potter
Did Leadbrook have the mini on , great ground that Magman, there was a mini today, on stand 2, evil little ****** it was to. Well I went to Leadbrook as I'm fed up of the M6 and I'll probably be passing Doverage on my way to Kegworth next Sunday. I haven't been for over a year and it is a cracking ground, friendly, welcoming and a good little canteen. It is fibre wad only, in fact it is "strictly" fibre wads only, a notice in the clubhouse reminds you, which always makes me chuckle. Today was one of their extra shoots which they hold on when there is a 5th Sunday and I think on these shoots they only have 10 stands for the 100 birds so 5 pairs a stand, I think they have at least 12 stands for their normal monthly shoot. Marking is done by the local Air Cadets and whilst they aren't referees they make a decent job of it. Targets are a good mixture of relatively straightforward club type targets (they're only described as easy when there are ten Kills on the card ) and a couple of stands that wouldn't be out of place at the British Open! There were 2 stands today were I thought the organisers had been a bit lazy, a simo pair of teal with the traps side by side about 30yds in front of the stand and another simo pair of fixed DTL type birds again the traps virtually touching about 35 yds away and 3 yds below the cage. Don't mind simo pairs but different birds please Would love to report that I shot my socks off and was high gun The truth is I was dreadful, started off OK, 27 x 30 after 3 stands then it just starting slipping, 3 away, 4 away then 9 away, yes 9 away and I knew I was committing the cardinal sin when you miss, shooting in exactly the same place again cos I was right and the ******* clays were wrong . Anyway eventually finished 29 birds away and I must admit I drove home very despondent, one thing that crossed my mind was hanging my gun up for a full month and seeing if that could get me back on track. That lasted till about 5 o'clock when I found myself checking the CPSA website seeing what was on in November. That's it then, yet another six days when i think I'm a half decent clay shooter before next Sunday when I demonstrate I'm not. Mr Potter PS Paul223 was that you with the group of about 5 others outside the cabin starting at about 12:30? If it was I'm sorry I didn't let on it's just that I wasn't sure, the last time we met was at the N v S shoot and we were both like drowned rats!!
