kippylawkid
Not the warmest coats but they are 100% waterproof. Ok if you wear a fleece underneath. No pockets either which can be a bugga.
Egg
The one I have has 2 breast pockets. It's totally wind & waterproof but, as paddywack says, you do need to layer-up underneath but that's what they were designed for anyway. You'll pick a new one up for £20-£30 if you keep looking: there's one on the Bay for £25, XL though.
beltabout
Agree with all the above. great 100% waterproof but can need jumper under if cold. Very light weight and take up no room. I have on in my pigeon kit, one in the boat for fowling.
Norrie
Hiya, I'm literally just in from a spot of shooting, wore my Goretex DPM Jacket/Trousers....it's pouring down with rain and I'm totally dry underneath...as has been said, not the warmest of clothing items, but a fleece or jumper, and your sorted...my jacket was £15 at a game fair, trousers were the same from a market stall.. welshwarrior
The older Artic ones are waterproof but the 95 ones with no pockets are rubbish I have had loads now and they don't stay waterproof for long. The Dutch ones look like DPM and are warmer and better bulit IMHO.
chrispti
The issued gortex is far from rubbish! The reason there are no pockets is, the suit is designed as a mid layer, not an outer. You see hunting/ out door clothing, boots etc described as being "gortex lined", thats what the suit is, a removable gortex lining.
malkiserow
I have the flecktarn version which is very good (and with some modest pockets!!) Pure Gortex needs protection if likely to be torn..... as said above..... wear as a mid layer if there are thorns about
THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
£40, is that a new shirt & trouser set ? I've got DPM & Flecktarn, bit noisy though. Trousers are over trousers.
welshwarrior
If it's a mid layer why is it DPM not green like a norgie the fleece softie etc that are issued as mid layers. It was an old fad that waterproofs went under your combat jacket, to stop the noise if you can hear my waterproof russel over the rain I'm to close to you or it's not raining. chrispti
If it's a mid layer why is it DPM not green like a norgie the fleece softie etc that are issued as mid layers. It was an old fad that waterproofs went under your combat jacket, to stop the noise if you can hear my waterproof russel over the rain I'm to close to you or it's not raining. That's like saying why are issued long johns and socks green and not red or white. Why are shooting and out door clothing items advertised (and made) with gore tex lining? why not just have a gore tex outer? Layers are what keeps you warm, ask any serious outdoors person, they dont just wear a t-shirt and 15 tog jacket over the top. As for issued DPM kit; Norgies are old bits of kit. Fleeces are now issued in DPM and the issued softie jacket and trousers would be to expensive in DPM. They where brought in when Telic kicked off, which is why they are reversible and sand coloured on the opposite side. Issued to keep the squaddies warm during the cold dessert nights. Whilst working or if the weather changes, you can remove a layer, the next layer will need to be DPM. It gives the wearer a multitude of options to combine differant layers to suits their needs. Gore Tex is also wind proof, so it doesn't have to be warn only when its raining. Edited November 24, 2010 by chrispti
Hornet 6
I have bought a few jackets in grade 1, all have leaked very quickly, a new and un-issued one has now lasted me 3 years and is still going strong. Gore-Tex washes ok, but most washing powder is of the biological type, that and a 40 degree wash will knacker the membrane in very short order. If you must wash Gore-Tex then non bio powder and 20 or 30 degree short wash cycle will do it ok. Neil.
