Recommended,

I bought a day on this shoot yesterday with my mate. Met Webber and Doc Savage, who wasn't shooting but just having a walk round and loading for Webber. Ended up with a bag of 110 comprising of about 80 pheasants, 3 woodcock and the balance of duck. I know the area quite well, it is on the Lancashire plain and is so flat they used to test spirit levels there  but the keeper and beaters put some more than decent birds over the pegs. The other guns were good company and though it's a formal driven shoot the day was really quite informal.

I have booked a further day in January and if that is as enjoyable as yesterday I could well be seeking a 1/2 gun (if available) for the 2011/12 season. I'm also going to tap up the keeper/captain to see if there is any possibility of February roost shooting (£?) as there are enough little blocks of woods to make it look as if that could be really good sport pest control :good:

Anyhoo, if anyone is thinking about taking up the remaining days (see above), for what it's worth I would unhesitatingly endorse it.

Mr Potter

PS At one point after lunch as we were driving to the next drive we passed a field with a couple of thousand geese feeding, I know next to nothing about geese but was told they were pinkfeet and bean geese. This was some sight, the field looked bare but was told it was a potato field, well it used to be, that lot must of cleaned it off.

About 40 mins later, as we were on our pegs for the drive the noise of geese got louder and louder, looked up and the sky was dark with huge skeins coming in from every direction, don't know how many but I would guess at a further 1000 plus, an amazing sight. And before you ask, yes they were way out of range.

Can I not tempt anyone with the peg for this Saturday 27th. November?

Unfortunatly, the gun who's position you would fill feels unable to shoot as his dog is ill, and he won't shoot without his dog!

Doc Savage and I are both shooting on Saturday, we would be pleased to host a PW member and provide transport around the shoot in my Range Rover.

Still available. The shoot is TOMORROW.

This is an excellent days sport going begging.

Please don't be shy; webber and Doc Savage will host you and transport you around the shoot to the various drives.

It would be a great pity to see this day go to waste.

All positions now filled.

Thanks to all those who showed interest, especially those who have booked.

There will be a limited number of pigeon roost shooting spaces available.

Those who have booked days will be given priority options for any openings.

Hello everyone,

I had a day at this wonderful place and I really enjoyed it.

We met in the morning and Webber was so nice to introduce me to the other guns and the Gamekeeper. Webber was a perfect host and I learned a lot from him during the day.

It was my first English pheasant hunt and I got absolutely addicted!!!

I shot pheasants before in Tschech republic and also in Germany but this pheasants were much fitter and better prepared. All guns had some great opportunities and even if the country is flat the beaters and flaggers did a great job and presented some challenging birds.

I am sure you are interested in the bag :D

117 Pheasants and Ducks, there was no overcharge what demonstrates the generosity of this syndicate and its Gamekeeper Jimmy who is doing a great job in game keeping but also in hosting his guests.

If there are next year free pegs I will definitely ask Webber whether I may come again!

Thanks again.

Bickerstaffe Shoot 11th Dec 2010

My old friend John Webster put me on to the Bickerstaffe Shoot and knowing "he says it as it" I quickly sorted out a 100 bird day for both myself, and fellow gun Ian Bibby.

On the day we met up with the keeper Jimmy Edwards and his very professional team who went on to produced some amazingly high birds, taking into consideration the flat nature of the ground.

We had a terrific days sport resulting in a bag of 105 birds, consisting of mostly Pheasant with few Duck and Woodcock.

This was a great day out and I look forward to any available Pheasant or Pigeon oppertunities next season.

Many thanks to Jim and John.

Bickerstaff Shoot 1st Jan 2011 :D

Wanting to indulge in a bit of pheasant shooting over the Winter , I eagerly read Mr Potters recommendation of this shoot and swiftly decided to book onto one of the available days that Webber (John) posted up a few weeks back so that I could see what the Bickerstaff shoot was like for myself. Having booked on to shoot on the 18th December, the day was sadly cancelled due to the lack of accessibility caused by the heavy snow in the week preceeding. Thankfully John liased with Jimmy (the keeper) and to my delight the shoot was swiftly rearranged for today :good:

I couldn't have been made to feel more welcome, not only by Jimmy and John, but also by the other guns on the day, who incidentally were a mixture of syndicate members and guests like myself and the beaters and pickers up, who were all more than happy to discuss various aspects of the day and shooting in general.

The drives were varied encompassing a mixture of cover crops as well as woodland and afforded me the chance to experience being a walking gun en-route to a peg and a standing gun on peg for an entire drive. All in all we had 7 drives today resulting in the following success rate (personally): 3 3 0 1 0 0 2 making my contribution to the bag 9 pheasants. Highlights of the day for me included walking and talking with Brian for an entire drive whilst seeing him work his dogs, getting a pheasant on my first and last shot fired of the day, as well as my two best shots of the day both of which happened in the final drive.

All in all I had an excellent day out :good::yes: Fair enough the facilities aren't teh most luxurious, but thats not what is important to me on a day like this as safety and good company IMHO are far more important. Huge thumbs up to Jimmy and John and I look forward to returning
