syborg
Hi folks, thought id share this with you all, here are a few pics of my 1960 bsa cadet. i bought this beauty for £20 about 7 years ago from a work mate at a machine shop. it used to fire spontaniously due to worn sears. so i redressed the sears and replaced the badly corroded ram with a solid ptfe cylinder which is 0.30mm smaller in diameter then the internal chamber. i also turned 2 reccesses into the cyclinder and fitted 2 nitrile orings and lubed up the chamber with molycote. i kept the original spring, the action is like silk, the accuracy is just mind bending. ive managed mice headshots from 20yrs freehand and although the iron sight only goes to 25yrd u can guestimate turns to work out up to 40 yrds and even then, the grouping is well within 2 inches.!!! i must say this is the most accurate gun ive ever had the pleasure to own... forgive my poor photography skills but i was in my cluttered workshop.. enjoy syborg Edited November 17, 2010 by syborg

Dekers
Used to have an older one in .177, originally belonged to my Dad, certainly from the 50's. In those days the Cadet with the adjustable rear sight was called the Cadet Major!
syborg
cheers for the feedback folks. i gotta admit it must be the best quality gun ive ever had, my mercury seems to have a slight bit of play on the barrel hinge, ive changed everything but still the same, makes me want to use iron sights. but this cadet is solid as a rock, the breakbarrel hinge has no play whatsoever due to the sheer surface area of the mating parts. its brilliant!!! i will get it cleaned ar reblued i think. am i right in thinking u can do it yourself using all the right stuff and ppe? id love to get it as new again... many thanks syborg
demonwolf444
i have the same issue with a mercury, i want to get it re blued, but after sorting my SGC im short of funds so i think i will have to do a DIY re blue, i think it should turn out okay aslong as im patient? when i got the mercury given to me someone had just sprayed it and so the first thing i did was scratch it off
