Just been given the ok for my .17HMR Variation.

I did like the look of the Rugers and Sako's but to be honest its just going to be used as a field bunny gun so ive gone to the CZ. Not saying they are inferior as they seem to get good reviews.

I have been looking at the CZ 452 Thumbhole Laminate or the 452 Varmint.Does anyone own either and their thoughts?

Which Moderator works well on the CZ's?

and whats the difference on the 452 and 453?

few questions i know, but i'm sure someone will have the answers i want?

This may help a bit....

The only difference between 452 and 453 is the trigger...the 455 is a bit different!

Frankly any CZ rimfire will serve you well, I don't like heavy guns and I see no need for them whatsoever for field work, mine are all light, and work. Others like heavy guns, fine, but not for me, the varmint and laminate are not light, if that suits you then great, but they are not going to shoot any better than the light barreled guns, just heavier to cart around.

ATB!

EDIT

PS

Personally I suggest forgetting about spending a load of money on a moderator for a HMR. From the cheapest to the most expensive the difference in sound reduction is hardly noticeable...just the money, and none are great...Just get a SAK!

Hi Silentkill.

I have a Varmint 20" barrel to which i have attached a dedicated 17HMR Third Eye Tactical overbarrel mod.

It comes in at the same length as a 16" version with a SAK.

The accuracy is top notch and matches that of any Ruger, Sako or Anschutz.

The CZ 453 has a single set trigger.

Ian.

Thanks for the info, how effective is the third eye tactical mod?

Its very effective mate, i have shot all four of four bunnies at 80yds without any of them doing a runner.

The internals are made of hich spec plastic composite with stainless steel inserts to combat possible erosion of plastics only.

Help me out here, I am not familiar with this mod, are you using it on a HMR and what is your opinion?

There simply is no decent mod for a HMR/WMR, they are all bad, but my quest continues to find the best of the bad bunch! :good:

Cheers

Hello, as a relatively new rifle shooter i cannot add much expertise but as i own the cz 452 thumbhole varmint in 17hmr and the cz 453 american in .22lr (barrel shortened to 16") i thought i had to at least let you know that i have had no problems whatsoever in the short time i have owned these rifles, the thumbhole is quite a bit heavier but i found the shorter barrel so much more useable (hence i had the american barrel cut and re-threaded)I have put a trigger kit on the 452 and now prefer it to the set trigger on the 453.

On the issue of silencers on the 17hmr i have tried a couple of cheap silencers on the rifle and would not use the rifle without one as it sounds like a shotgun without one on. With a silencer all you can hear is the super sonic crack.

Just my thoughts and as i say i am quite inexperienced in these matters. Tom
